After Monique Billings unilaterally left Dynamo Kursk, Kayla Thornton realized that there was no reason that she should not also leave to be in time for training camp too. Dynamo Kursk fans were not happy because Ekaterinburg has not looked that tough this season and Kursk's full strength roster absolutely had a decent chance at a championship.

I like it and I agree, though I wouldn’t mind Martinez either! And I wish we had space for Sherrod! Her speed and defense next to Sab in the future would be nice!
Be kind to yourself, the way you expect others to be kind to you.
cheapest ticket for the Liberty's opener on May 18 against the Fever are $126 in the back rows of the upper bowl. Cheapest ticket in the lower bowl are $385. Glad I did the half season plan for $300 for ten games total.

The league really needs roster expansion. I fear this is the Libs last hurray with this core of vets and 2025 will be a bit of a rebuild. 13 player rosters and we'd likely be able to keep Carter/Martinez/Sherrod.

An interesting point ... but since teams don't really practice much during the season, how much would the extra players gain? And minutes are hard to come by already, barring injury, so number 13 in the rotation is getting minimal minutes.
Still, with richer owners, apparently, coming into the league, it might make sense to do what the NBA does and have a roster of 13, say, and a game-night roster of 11.

I like the idea of some sort of ‘call up’ situation, where players (12)/13/14/15 get to practice and travel but aren’t on the active roster. Or maybe if it’s ’too costly’ for owners, these players don’t get to travel unless called up. Maybe a base salary of 50k for those ‘developmental’ positions that don’t count against the cap.
I get they might not gain much, but at least the foot is in the door and they get to learn the organization and the offensive/devensive system. And work with player development coaches.

13 player rosters should be the goal in the next CBA. Reaching for more would be unrealistic. 11 active + 2 developmental/IR spots. Ease on the hard cap, too, so teams don't have to force themselves to trim their rosters.
Here's a thought: Use the Mexican League like the G League. Players could be on two-way contracts, available for call-up but not counting against the roster or salary cap until they are called up.

I still feel like the Mexican league is too new and too amateur to attach themselves to the W. They did just start play this weekend. It's hard to follow as their website is terrible to dig through. Maybe the WNBA helping them out could allow them to form some kind of partnership.

I can't believe that the early assumption was Kaitlyn Davis had to finish school or had an injury or something only for it to be revealed that she would not be attending camp with the Liberty because she was going to play in Mexico. It's not necessarily the kind of move that will endear anyone to the WNBA clique, but more guaranteed money is more guaranteed money.
Another interesting tidbit that I saw on the Mexican league recently is that the plan is for the league to fine any men's team not fielding a women's team starting next year.

Yikes this game has been terrible from NY, great from the Sky. I can’t believe I watched it all lol. 23 turnovers for us 🥶
We look so slow while Chicago looks athletic, quick and long. They seemed to beat us to every ball, more energy and hustle. I’m not surprised by the hustle and grit given their coach, but I am surprised they dropped 49 in the first half and 101 overall. They were crushing our starters too!
I’m gonna touch on players fighting for a roster spot: Davis- certainly looks like a mini Copper, quick with a nice slashing midrange game. Defensively didn’t seem super intense; generally wish she got more playing time.
Martinez- speedy and athletic, long but skinny. Seems undersized for a post but has potential if she can shift to the wing. Defended decently out there and hit a 3 without hesitation.
Carter- big and strong post with length, solid defensive positioning but wasn’t a game changer down there.
Fraser- tall and lengthy but slow, forced a lot of shots and didn’t look like a W player.
Mawuli- lengthy, good height for a wing, some speed but not super quick. Nice hands defensively, hit a couple good midrange numbers.
Adika- slow long wing. Had to try to create in our offense and couldn’t get any separation. Defensively didn’t stand out or seem impactful.
Sherrod- super quick, small but loved her defensive tenacity! Such a nice contrast to Sloot and Sab. Great burst on offense and defense. Wish we could keep 12, I would roll with 3 posts and 2 wings who can play small ball 4 spot (KT, Fiebich) and keep Jaylyn.

Brondello called out the vets, her starters, after the game for being slow and lazy. Saying a 50 point loss is still embarrassing, even in a preseason game. The only rookie that stood out was Sherrod and, to some degree, Davis. Mawuli looked decent, too. But we have four of our key bench players out last night: Sabally, Burke, Fiebich and Dojkic. Let's not overreact to a preseason game until New York puts up a stinking on Thursday at Connecticut.
Chicago has a lot of young players with something to prove. New York's vets are only worried about Las Vegas in postseason.
And Chicago had just 11 available players last night, too. Their veteran post players(EWill and Harrison were playing in the fourth quarter against Carter and Martinez). Evans, Mabrey and Reese had the bulk of the points last night.
After last night's preseason game, I'd have Sherrod making the team over Dojkic. Wish both could be kept though. Dojkic looked pretty good, too. But I like keeping Sherrod for development purposes.
