I'm really curious where Borlase falls in the WNBA draft. Late first round to New York at #11? Or does she fall into the second round? Of course, the entire draft depends on who actually enters. Making doing a mock draft nearly impossible.
Kalani Brown joins Xinjiang. Some of the other players who had signed in Israel have also found contracts elsewhere. The league is scheduled to start on 11/20 with no foreign players.
Attendance numbers would be even more fascinating, but I imagine they're even harder to find -- and impossible to verify.
I was planning on collecting some this year, but not a lot of places are reporting. Given how low most are, I doubt that anybody is inflating their figures significantly. France has Bourges at around 4000 a game, a few teams in the 2000-3000 range and then even some of their top teams are closer to 1000. Fenerbahce was charging $3 last season to see their endless cast of stars and anything above 600 was a good EuroLeague attendance even though 35 million people around the world identify as supporters of Fenerbahce the entire sports club. Townsville gets decent attendance in Australia, which is why they can charge so much. An attendance of 100 in the regular season is basically considered incredible in Israel and there are teams with pretty well known players occupying the three foreign slots.
Presumably other women's team sports -- volleyball, team handball, water polo -- draw about the same, or less.
The club structure generates enough income to support money-losing teams, obviously.
Well, Fenerbahce's Women's Volleyball team reported about 1200 in attendance in their Champions League opener, but their tickets are slightly cheaper. I am actually surprised that they kept their Women's Basketball budget so high this season after winning it all last season and basically being so far ahead of any team that they easily could have fielded a weaker roster. After they won the Men's Basketball EuroLeague, they pretty much immediately started cutting the budget there. Of course they still spend like three times as much on Men's Basketball compared to Women's Basketball, but that team has at least some fans. Weirdly in Turkey, Women's Basketball is pretty much dominated by the Big Three while that is far from the case in Women's Volleyball. Clubs have Fenerbahce have tons of complex politics since all of the teams lose money and prominent fans try to sponsor individual teams for success to curry favor for their companies in their third of the population. The last presidential election had people suggesting that the club cut the budgets of all of the teams to pour more resources into Men's Soccer.
Kayla Thornton is the first under contract player to play in Russia, joining Dynamo Kursk.
When is Russia's season scheduled to end? awhom111 With Thornton under contract through 2025 w/New York, I hope prioritization doesn't keep her out of the 2024 WNBA season.

A sweep in the Finals would end on April 29th, but a Game 4 would be on May 1st according to to their announcement at the beginning of the season. Presumably Dynamo Kursk would be not insist that she or Billing stay for the bronze medal series if they lost in the semifinals. The scheduling is why I asked you and the Liberty beat writers if the team had anything to say about this.

Absolutely nothing from the Liberty. Their last overseas update did not include Thornton but did include Fiebich, Fauthoux and Carrera.
Jaiamoni Welch-Coleman signed in Ukraine, the first foreigner to do so since the invasion.
Israel also started the season. The first round-robin will definitely not have imports, but there are still Jewish players who have primarily resided in the United States or elsewhere outside Israel who are playing. There are also a few Arab players who are rostered.
