If her back works well enough for basketball purposes, Engstler is a better 4th post option than Zahui B or Hawkins IMO, especially defensively.
Washington's backup post options in training camp seem to be mostly injured (Hines-Allen, Engstler) or badly out of form (Zahui B - possibly injured too?). Tianna Hawkins is on track to start the season as the healthy third post, which isn't great for Washington.
carrying both Hines-Allen and Engstler feels redundant to me, assuming they’d be playing the same position – namely the 4.
i still think Zahui B. could be useful depending on fit, but Hawkins has needed to go for a while. her last good season was 2019 – as was Toliver’s tbh.
Never have worries about EDD. But they still did not address their biggest need. Which is a secondary scorer/option to Delle Donne. Someone who is actually consistent.
i’d love for us to give Westbrook another go, but probably not. (same with Kiki H H, but it doesn’t look like that’ll happen either.)
Christyn Williams' career might be over before it even began. incredibly sad.
Not sure if Westbrook ends up anywhere else as most teams are already guard heavy.
As for Williams, if she is to attempt a return, I can see her trying AU ball next year.
Westbrook though would be the closest thing we’d have to a PG other than Melbourne. we’re guard-heavy, but it’s really a bunch of true off-guards & wing players, and few who are natural offense-runners.
Williams just has to get that leg healthy first. tearing an ACL is no joke, let alone two other ligaments along with it. after that, i could see her playing overseas in Australia if not AU. i also wouldn’t blame her if she just continued to rest & rehab until next W season.
With Engstler on the team, there's really no need for both Zahui B & Hawkins. Thibault loves Hawkins and they traded for AZB. Tough call there. Also, Li Meng isn't a lock. They could use Engstler at SF, reducing the likelihood of Li Meng making the roster.
With Engstler, there's no need to keep both Hawkins and Zahui B. Curious which one goes or if Thibault cuts Engstler. Looking like Li Meng will make their roster now.
