If a WNBA team isn’t even doing well in Atlanta, what makes anyone think one would do well in Nashville? And fwiw, Knoxville (where the Univ. of Tennessee is) would be nearly a 3-hour drive away...
All of these speculations and hearsy would mean the WNBA would be at 16 teams by 2024 with the addition of Nashville, Toronto, Philadelphia & the Bay Area. Let's see if we get even one expansion team by 2024.
The Warriors would be the favorites because of their deep pockets. Maybe another group can bring back the Monarchs in Sacramento? I don't see both Oakland and San Francisco getting teams.
No idea how the Monarchs would draw in Sacramento in this day & age, but I’d be all for it simply for the nostalgia aspect. Too bad there wasn’t a good sized arena in between Sacramento & Oakland. They’re not even 1.5 hours away from each other. And there’s no 5k arena in Vacaville I don’t think. Now Stockton on the other hand…
New idea: just brand the Bay Area team as the Sacramento Monarchs, but have the team rooted squarely in Oakland. Boom.

Let's hope those Philadelphia reports are true as well. Oakland and Philadelphia in 2023? Ideally, I'd love a team in Tennessee or Louisville. My next expansion team would be a return to either Houston or Portland.
EAST: Connecticut New York Washington Philadelphia
CENTRAL: Atlanta Indiana Chicago Nashville/Knoxville/Louisville
MIDWEST: Minnesota Dallas Phoenix Las Vegas or Houston
PACIFIC: Seattle Oakland Los Angeles Las Vegas or Portland
“Charlotte, Houston, Philadelphia, and Toronto”… Interesting lack of west-coast cities mentioned, where it seems like teams tend to draw crowds better on average than eastern ones (perhaps I’m factoring in Indiana/Atlanta too much though). I don’t remember how well the Sting drew in Charlotte, so that would be an interesting choice as one of those priority cities.
It’s clear that the west coast will eventually need 1-2 more teams (Bay Area/Sacramento, Portland). The Comets absolutely need reviving as well. Those would be my priorities if I were the Commish seeking out good expansion spots.
OT: Just want to mention how excited I am for the Seattle Kraken’s NHL expansion draft on Wednesday night. I would kill to see another WNBA one. I was still too young to really remember much about the Dream’s.
I found it interesting the article didn't mention the recent Oakland news. Philadelphia and Toronto have been brought up recently, while Charlotte is something new and the reviving of the Comets has appeared to be wishful thinking.
I've come to the conclusion that I'll die before the WNBA expands again and I'm in my 20s.
SAME. I also don’t trust the Oakland person organizing a W team in particular – she’s been hyping shit up for years with very little progress to show for it.

My mind has worked that the league would fold before we added someone new. I am not changing that view now to get my hopes dashed again.
Someone call me when we get to the stage of protecting players from an Expansion Draft
