So did the Lynx re-core Sylvia Fowles? I know the Sky had her cored, but it didn't help because she decided not to play for the Sky because she wanted to be traded. But I find it interesting that she switched teams and still has the Core tag.
As far as I know, the core designation is team-based so if the team trades her, she is no longer cored. Fowles would have received the standard 1 year max offer and she probably signed that to be traded. So, she'd currently be a UFA and it made sense for the Lynx to core her again and protect their half-year investment. Of course, if they negotiate a multi-year with her the core will stay on her for that contract length.
Angel Goodrich is an unrestricted free agent which means that the Storm did not extend a qualifying offer to her. They wouldn't have done this if they weren't pretty confident that they would be able to sign Bird who is also a free agent. It also doesn't mean Goodrich might not get a camp invite if she doesn't get signed elsewhere but this gives her a chance to look elsewhere. Alysha Clark, Quanitra Hollingsworth and Jenna O'Hea are restricted free agents and Ramu Tokashiki is a reserved player. Storm will definitely want Ramu and Alysha back. Jenna would be useful but I suspect they won't want to pay a lot for her. I would not be surprised if they let Quanitra walk.

I think LA will make the first move by resigning Nneka Oguwmike. I also think Minnesota keeps Dev Peters as well. Sue Bird will probably sign a 2 year contract. I fully believe she will retire next season considering most wnba players retire at 37.
Core designations are voided when a player is traded.
Yeah, I figured that. I guess I was just wondering if it was accurate that the Lynx cored her too or maybe the WNBA made a mistake and forgot to remove her from the cored list. But it it would be so unlike the WNBA to make an error such as this

I'd like to hear your thoughts re: Canada's Olympic medal prospects...Rio might be too soon, but 2020...? I'm really excited about the rise of your National Team...you add a Bulgak...Hamblin...Quinn Dorstauder
Nirra Fields...That's a Bronze(or better) capable team. Can't to see how Rio shakes out!

It might not be the first move (maybe, like Maya, she just can't get to a printer) but it will be an obvious one as LA would definitely give her the max. I would not be surprised if Sue continues to sign one-year deals but I am really not concerned with her trying to go someplace new during an Olympic year. The Storm are not aggressively pushing to make the playoffs this year and that would give her the flexibility to take time off to prepare if she so desired.
I'm not sure that Peters has distinguished herself enough for some team to offer her something worth leaving the Lynx for - or that they would not match. There are a number of posts out there who could be signed for a song to be a tall backup - Sanders and Hollingsworth immediately jump to mind.

If people are looking for back-up posts, Kelsey Griffin should be on speed-dial. It's an unusual year for a lot of teams--because you have to wonder how the Olympics will come into play. LA's situation is especially interesting. You have the possibility of Marianna Tolo coming back from injury (What is her status anyway?) alongside the continued development of Jennifer Hamson--who did have some decent minutes in a game or two IIRC.
Then there's the void left in San Antonio by the departure of Sophia Young--because Adams, Appel, Alexander and Co. aren't really going to cut it despite Appel's rebounding prowess.
It's going to be interesting to see what moves are made--and hopefully they start sooner rather than later.

I'm pretty excited about the team myself. I honestly thought they would compete for a bronze medal during the 2014 World Championships but ultimately they couldn't do it (at that time). Flash forward, they are now more than capable to get the bronze medal at the Olympics if they play well and get major contributions from Kia Nurse and Nirra Fields. It would be a pretty historic moment.

Too long to quote but I agree, I'd like to see some moves made, maybe some rumours but it's still probably a little early. I'm hoping by next week, we have somewhat of a better idea. Btw, does anyone know what Delisha Milton Jones status is? Is she still going to play? Or retire?

Last I read, they were not 100% sure Tolo would even be ready for the Olympics. If that's the case, I'd bet she doesn't return to LA to start the year.
I can't predict what Hughes is going to do. I have never been high on Appel and was very disappointed in Adams' lessening performance. I'm not sold on the price they paid for Montgomery either. I would expect that Ayayi will not report at first since France needs to play in June to qualify for the Olympics. They have Astou Ndour but if Spain decides that she's the naturalized player they want to also qualify for the Olympics, then she'd be out too.
Moriah Jefferson is the most likely candidate at pick #2 but unless Danielle Robinson's injury is bad (she just left her EU team because of it) then I don't think she is their pressing need - posts are. If Morgan Tuck declares, would they take her and her possible knee issues instead? Would they consider trading down and grabbing Jonquel Jones, Adut Bulgak, or Jillian Alleyne? That's what I would do.

No one can be signed until Feb 1st and it usually takes a week to really get going. I know in the Storm's case, the only read trade bait they have is maybe Crystal, Jenna or Quanitra but each would need to be signed first. The only other thing they have is the 2017 picks and I don't know when those can start being traded. I would expect some other teams to have that same delay (sign-and-trades) before any deals.
The Fever resigned Kizer and Shenise Johnson. It almost sounds like they were unwilling to pay Zellous the max that would have come with the core tag. Libs signed Zellous and resigned Swords. Mercury resigned Mistie Bass.
Edit: Seattle resigning Crystal Langhorne seems to be a rumor started by ex-teammate Mo Currie's site. Probably going to happen but unofficial.
Good move IMO. Shenise seemed to really fin in well with Indiana. And with her emergence, Zellous's spot was more or less expendable. And NY could use some scoring with Prince gone for a while, so it was probably a good move for her as well.

It's probably more about being unable than being unwilling. I mean how often does a team write a release about a player leaving?
The Fever know Zellous' value but they also had to make business decisions. Regardless of personal feelings, Coleman and Johnson both had career-years.
