Bring back Brown and give Sabally whatever is possible. Add in their two first round picks, and that's their 12. Burton should be the team's starting PG in 2024.
Brown should sign elsewhere anyway, she’ll never be more than a Wings bench player while McCowan’s there and i think she understands that. she could command a decent salary depending on how many teams want her.
Dangerfield’s contract is non-guranteed. if they liked Sims enough and Sims is willing to sign for cheap again, i can see them letting Dangerfield go… or even trading Burton, but only if she gets them back something interesting.
Bibb wouldn’t discuss specifics of his conversations with Sabally and her representation but did explain the outline of the Wings’ pitch.
“We drafted you No. 2 overall with the vision of you being a cornerstone part of this franchise for the majority or entirety of your career,” Bibb said. “We’ve grown together. There’s been a lot of hard times along the way, both individually for her as a player and for us collectively as an organization. She’s turned a corner. I feel the organization’s turned a corner. We’re on our way now. Let’s finish the job together.”
nice of Kuier to let everyone know of her decision this far ahead. not sure if any team will ever be drafting a Euro teen that high again… not that there were very many better options in 2021. 🫠
if Trammell really thought Charli Collier was “so close” to making the roster last season (i believe that was how she put it), she’d convince Bibb to give her a camp invite. although they now have Stephanie Soares, assuming her knee will be healthy enough for her to play by Camp, so that time is probably over.
Collier as a former #1 Pick flaming out this early still imo reflects poorly on the league itself; she failed herself, but in this case the Wings & the league also failed her.
Kalani Brown meanwhile should hopefully recognize she’ll have better options elsewhere thanks to McCowan being in front of her.
Does Finland have Euro Cup qualifiers this summer? awhom111
No, not national team play. We could take her at her word in her messages...
I think that it is much more of a situation where both sides know that she was ruled as subject to prioritization. I have not seen a schedule for playoffs in Italy, but it seems likely that her team Reyer Venezia will play into May even if there is a chance that they have a very tough first round matchup. There is an argument based on the absolute letter of the CBA that she should not get credit for a year of service for her rookie season, but Richard Cohen has always thought of that as a longshot. All of this leads to the interesting question of plans for her teammate Jessica Shepard, who is definitely subject to prioritization. It is also unclear what this means for Kuier's stated intention of returning in 2025, especially if Finland does actually qualify for EuroBasket.

i might need to start looking at which leagues are most likely to keep players out of the W this year… i guess Italy, Spain, and France are our usual suspect-type starting points.
i can see either Soares or Siegrist being traded at the last minute before opening-day rosters get finalized. i like Cannon’s addition to this group, and i honestly would be surprised to see her get cut.
i’m also convinced Dallas will either pick a deferral player with the #9 or trade the #9 for a pick next year. just no way that that #9 pick is on the Wings' 2024 roster, cuz otherwise the odds are just so high that that player ends up getting cut.
