awhom111 what's the latest in China? Haven't seen much reporting on the league there. is Cambage still playing?
China is on break until after Olympic qualifiers. I have not seen any reports from anyone credible on the Chinese media side that Cambage is definitely playing there. It feels like all the global reporting was relying on Cambage's camp.
Foreign players were allowed to play in the Israeli league as of today. There is now a mix of players who were always supposed to play there and replacements for players who signed elsewhere. Here are the players who are either rostered now or have played this season who would not consider themselves primarily residents of Israel as far as I know: Elitzur Ramla: Jessica Jackson, Jennie Simms, Yemiyah Morris Maccabi Ramat Gan: Drew Edelman, Miriam Uro-Nile, Kenisha Bell Hapoel Jerusalem: Alyssa Baron, Breanna Richardson, Annette Snow, Stasha Carey, Alex Cohen Hapoel Rishon Lezion: Camille Zimmerman, Katarina Vuckovic Maccabi Ashdod: Victoria Vivians, Courtney Hurt, Tal Sahar (for literally one game that was presumably on her holiday break from dental school, which she retired to after last season) Ramat Hasharon: Shae Kelley, Leila Deluty, Chelsea Mitchell Maccabi Haifa: Hannah Little, Morgan Batey Hapoel Petah Tikva: Madison Shea, Sarah Sagerer, Shyla Heal Elitzur Holon: Bernice Mosby, Crystal Bradford ASA Jerusalem: Renata Brezinova, Julia Drop, Sydney Zambrotta
There is no recent news on additional foreigners signing in Russia. A couple of Chinese players did sign in Belarus along with twins LaTascya and LaTora Duff.
i don't pay consistent attention to overseas leagues. so when i go to look up Player A's overseas stats or if Player B is even playing overseas, i become more prone to falling down a rabbit hole of looking up other familiar names.
so for example, i never would've guessed Maddy Westbeld's slightly less talented older sister Kathryn [also a Notre Dame product] was even playing overseas... let alone playing with the 2010 #6 overall pick and one-time Storm acquisition Jacinta Monroe, who is now 35 years-old but apparently still playing.
Monroe, whom we let go after an apparent subpar showing in Training Camp, was originally part of the trade that brought Katie Smith to Seattle, which also involved trading away our first-round draftee that year: Jasmine Thomas, who of course just retired.
and y'know what? Kathryn Westbeld & Jacinta Monroe are averaging a combined 31+ PPG on around 60% from the field & 14+ RPG for Atomeromu. but no, some still think the WNBA's talent pool would get too watered down with a few more expansion teams – even with so many overseas Americans who could come out of the woodwork with numbers like these. 🫠
by the way, i stumbled onto them originally cuz i saw some reference to DePaul and happened to remember Jessica January's overseas career, so i looked her up. yes, she still plays, in Poland, and yes, she too [still] produces... and the Storm as of right now could still use some PG help. how i got from Polish teams to Hungarian teams, i'll admit i can't recall.

The rabbit holes I get in from looking at tons of overseas boxscores...
