it’s funny cuz Sissoko is French, but ya get the feeling that she may not be good enough to crack Team France’s roster, ergo a W team may never have to worry about her being unavailable 😅
^do we know much about him and why is he about to be the highest paid coach in W herstory?
That's how much it took to lure him away from the NBA.
I recall about 20 years ago the Sun hired an NBA assistant with similarly meh resume and made him the highest paid coach in the league. He turned out OK.
the only way this hire is good is if it pisses Becky Hammon off, seeing another former NBA AC but in male form come in and start making more money than her, enough to where she immediately jumps ship back to the NBA in some form or another.
...in all seriousness, if he can win over his locker room, he'll have a chance. (and it may certainly be made easier absent a personality like Diggins-Smith.) and really, with Diggins-Smith gone, the locker room will probably be more chill and able to be won over.
i wonder if it'll ever come out how Tibbetts and Mat Ishbia previously knew each other, as that has to be what's going on here.
The NBA is the best basketball in the world, and the more the W taps into that knowledge and skill, the better.
The WNBA-NBA pipeline is good for both leagues. There's a big difference between being an assistant and a head coach, and Tibbetts gets a chance to prove he can make that step. At the same time, James Wade used his success in the W to find a home in the NBA.
For me, the more crossover will serve to legitimize the league more in the eyes of casual or sexist-leaning fans, and it will also show that basketball is basketball, and the game can played well without dunking.
Along that line, Hammon is outcoaching Brondello, and if she somehow gets the Aces past the Liberty without Gray and/or Stokes, it will simply be further proof.
Hammon was still able to wear the “former W player” label; also won the NBA’s Summer League as a HC that one year. i personally wouldn’t compare her & Tibbetts' respective coaching paths into the W all that closely, other than maybe their respective W teams needing to pay them the requisite compensation in order to bring 'em over.
ultimately, i find Tibbetts to be an easily criticizable pick because he hasn’t really proven anything at the men’s level, let alone the women’s. Phoenix is paying top dollar for a big unknown. again, Tibbetts is in trouble if he can’t win over that locker room – especially if they’ll be trying to contend again in 2024 in which he’ll need to sooner rather than later.

We have no clue what the other ten head coaches are getting paid(Hammon is getting $1 million/year). We just know this guy is getting way more than any other coach besides Hammon. And getting 5-10x more than any player.
One interesting unintended consequence of a hard salary cap is that non-playing positions become an investment opportunity for richer franchises.
Since owners are prohibited from seeking advantages by offering players more money (or flying charter), they seek those advantages in other areas.
It's like college football. The coaches make way too much money because the players can't be paid. In any business, if you remove restraints, the money will go to those who return the most benefit. If there were no salary cap, the players would make more than the coaches.
