I continue to have a problem with the first round format. Each team should get a home game. If you want to limit travel just give the lower seed game 1.

they used to do that, but some of the higher seeds argued that it gave the lower seed an advantage for them to be able to host the first game.
the 1-1-1 format makes the most sense, but is the most travel-intensive. for that reason, i'm personally ok with the lower seed having to earn a home game by stealing at least one of the first two on the road.
tbh the playoffs should probably be expanded such that the first round & the semis are each both Best of 5, and the Finals are Best of 7

I think this happens when the new CBA gets worked out. So maybe by 2026?
The only way the first rounds of the playoff expand is if attendance improves dramatically -- it's always been low -- and TV ratings go up.
Lengthening the playoffs pushes them deeper into football territory, and unless the revenue and ratings justify it, I can't see the league making that move. And the players will justifiably want more money for more games as well.
In an ideal world, the WNBA starts around April 15, plays 40 games, and finishes the playoffs on Labor Day.
Last year under the 2-1 the high seeds won every series.
i’d wonder if the 2-1 format gives the higher seeds too much of an advantage, but i still think they’ve earned it. imo this format does reward the 3 & 4 seeds more than the previous single-elim. one did, which again i’m fine with.

you’re right that playoff attendance has been bad, especially for some teams. that said, the “ideal world” scenario won’t happen unless the wcbb moves up its calendar by at least a week and sees the Final Four weekend happen 1-2 weeks earlier. even then, that still may be too quick a turnaround.
(or just have the draft MLB-style: midseason, in which draftees wouldn’t begin play until the season after. once the league does that though, there’s absolutely no going back. could be too big of a change to go through.)
or is the “ideal world” to play domestically during the winter like the players seem to want? not with the new Miami league and AU both taking place in mid-winter; though those calendars i would think are easily movable.
