So what are the minimum and maximum salaries in the WNBL?
The minimum salary is about $13,000 USD, but some players are not paid. The team salary cap is estimated at around $325,000 or so, but some top Australian players can be paid some money that does not count towards the cap. Only a handful of players who are done with their education do not have a job outside of basketball and that includes some of the non-WNBA Americans.

So there's a minimum salary of either $0 or $13,000. Odd ...

There has to be some mechanism for players to play in the league and still play in college later unless the NCAA changes their rules. Some teams definitely exploit the definition of what is allowed instead of using the spots for the intended development process though.
It's still odd that many foreigners opt to play in the WNBL despite the low salaries. I guess some are more comfortable playing in Australia then anywhere in Europe.

The player I talked to said the weather is good and Australia is more like America than Europe, so there are other attractions.
this is why i have hope Mercedes Russell will come through for us this year. 🤞🏼
i wonder if Lauren Nicholson has [ever had] any interest from W teams. i see she actually was a Class of 2016 alum of Saint Mary’s, as many Aussies & Kiwis are within their wbb program.
Tianna Hawkins was supposed to join i believe Townsville before pulling out just days before their season started in order to recover from lingering injuries. she still hasn’t been signed in the W, so i wonder if her recovery is still ongoing… or if they’re just too much to come back from, such that she’s about to announce retirement. probably not, but the former inaugural MVP of AU has been quite quiet these past several months.
