A story in the SF Chronicle today offered two things new to me:
1) Stanford does not take junior or senior transfers, limiting the pool of available players; and
2) Stanford's graduate program is not like other schools, so transferring in for a master's doesn't work as it does elsewhere, also limiting the pool of available players.
Tara VanDerveer said that she will not carry as many players as in the past, as playing time may have spurred this year's exodus -- which means male practice players will appear at Stanford, which has not used them in the past.
the post depth is suddenly gone, so imo either Demetre or Iriafen will probably have to be brought in off the bench. Ogden is a Top-10 recruit, so i could see her starting from Day 1; Agara & Clardy as Top-40 recruits should see some floor time as well. it's just gonna have to be a perimeter-oriented team, which may actually be good for Brink's & Iriafen's respective games as the lone true posts on the roster.
VanDerveer and her staff always do a fabulous job at keeping all their players healthy – although they usually have a full 15 players to work with. i wonder if they'd be allowed to bring in a walk-on or two just to use as extra bodies in practice.
