Morgan Cheli is a legit 6-2 (Class of 24) wing. She can shoot threes, handle the ball, defend, rebound, etc.
She had a foot injury this year for Archbishop Mitty (San Jose) and only played 14 games, but still made almost every all-NorCal and all-state team.
USA Basketball gold medalist. Plays for Cal Stars on EYBL. If healthy, hard to see her not being a Mickey's girl.
This is a big get for UConn, and a blow to the West Coast. Mitty is the alma mater of Haley Jones, but Cheli (who I'm pretty sure has the grades) didn't follow her to Stanford. Since USC has their star in place in Juju Watkins, UConn makes a lot of sense for Cheli, as there's not really another national title contender west of the Rockies.
California prospects get successfully recruited to UConn all the time. Cheli wasn’t the first & won’t be the last. meanwhile, if she were to choose a big in-state school, she may not know what conference she’d be in (Stanford, Cal) or which local teams they’d get to travel to if any (USC, UCLA). total chaos going on on that front.
