Washington State is my sleeper pick for the tournament
You from the future or somethin'?? 😲 7-seed WSU upsets 3-seed Colorado 61-49, will take on 5-seed UCLA (who of course upset 1-seed Stanford earlier) in the Final on Sunday at 5pm ET on Espn2. I suppose Cori Close heard my usual criticism of her on Wednesday and decided this time to take it personally lmfao.
The 5-seed vs. the 7-seed… just what everyone expected. 🤪
Mary Murphy on the broadcast in that last minute: "Have we ever seen a Pac-12 Tournament where the 1-seed, 2-seed, 3-seed, and 4-seed all go down before the Final? The death of the Pac-12." Lmao even Mary Murphy’s saying the quiet part out loud. 🤫
Yassssssss one of my predictions came true for once lol. Washington State had beaten ranked Arizona, Oregon and UCLA on the road this season and a lot of their losses came when Leger-Walker was back in New Zealand so I knew they had the grit and talent to win some tournament games. I like the Cougs' big three of Leger-Walker, Murekatete and Motuga who has suddenly transformed into a really effective 3 and D big this tournament. They're also mainly non-US players which is interesting.
Question then becomes, who are the #1 seeds outside of South Carolina and Indiana?
Teams I would throw out would be Maryland, Utah, Iowa, Notre Dame, UConn. Stanford and LSU can be in discussions. But Stanford hasn’t played well for a while, so I find it hard to justify that they should stay a 1. It’s really only due to their name IMO.

WSU’s main recruiting conduit has been the international scene for several years now, at least dating back to the June Daugherty days. It was a bit surprising to me to see them continue that strategy when Kamie Ethridge took the helm, since the Cougs didn’t have a whole lot of success going down that route back then. But apparently it’s just that Ethridge maybe found better hidden gems – and she’s undeniably been one of WSU’s best-ever wbb coaches.
I’m supposed to hate WSU, but their athletics have been so bad for so long, that they really are just lovable losers to me – though obviously not this current iteration of the wbb team. I respect them for sure, and still admire a bit from afar.
All y’all better be tuning in & rooting for them on Sunday! One of the very few times the whole country will be able to watch them, so hopefully they continue to be on their A-game.
Stanford's offensive woes must be corrected or the Cardinal won't last long in the tournament. Haley Jones has lost all confidence; Talana Lepolo can make shots but isn't aggressive enough so defenders sag into the paint; Hannah Jump just disappears; etc.
And one thing that killed Stanford vs. UCLA was confusion on defending the pick-and-roll. Twice Fran Belibi stayed back and twice UCLA hit jumpers. Maybe the on-ball defender (Jones at least once if not both times) is supposed to fight over come what may, but in these two cases the on-ball defender went under the screen and Belibi didn't challenge.
You can't make those kinds of mistakes at this level -- especially if your offense looks like my Carondelet frosh team.
all right, who the hell planned having the Pac's Final at the same time as the Big Ten's Final? once again, absolutely no one outside of the west coast is gonna be watching this matchup on ESPN2, not if Caitlin Clark is playing in the other game on the main ESPN
so incredibly sick of this conference at this point – #BackThePac over the edge of a cliff tbh
Surprised they did that. Usually they aren’t on at the same time. What’s ESPN trying to broadcast instead lol
ESPN has the NBA at 7pm. ESPN2 has, wait for it.....
The XFL. 🤬
i’m not surprised 🙃
this is also why I want Washington to go to the Big Ten – we’d get to leave ESPN behind completely as a result and i can then wholeheartedly root for the network to collapse
