It could just be that Stephanie White needs talent to be able to coach effectively. The majority of coaches probably can’t do more with less, which is what was going on when she took her self-proclaimed dream job in Vanderbilt. She might just be better off in the pros.
Yeah, no idea what this means for a possible AT-to-Minny trade. I don’t think the odds of it happening changed in either direction with this move.
The positive: People do get better at their jobs, so Stephanie White might be a better coach than she has shown in the past.
The negative: Without Tamika Catchings, White's resume basically consists of her popularity in Indiana. And people don't go to games to see the coach. (Well, in Indiana they don't go to Fever games, really, though it would help if they sold tickets and announced where they were playing.)
Could this help Reeve in dumping Achonwa? Achonwa, the #12 overall pick & the rights to swap 2024 first-round picks for AT?
What exactly would the Sun gain out of such a trade? Cuz if AT really makes the Lynx better, that pick swap would not be a big one. They wouldn’t even get much more cap space.
Speaking of opportunities at the rim, White’s biggest goal should be getting Jonquel Jones more touches next season. The 2021 MVP averaged just 10.4 shot attempts per game last season and saw her free throw rate drop. That is partly due to veteran guard Jasmine Thomas being out for most of the season and the Sun not having a true playmaker behind her to lead an offense.
AT is a great player but I have to wonder for how long. At some point you have to have 2 working shoulders. Plus, why should MN give for anything for her when they can get her as a UFA in 2023. Likewise - why should the Sun dump her for nothing when they have at least one run left in their core players.
Plus there is also the whole issue of relationships among Sun players which would complicate trades.

AT is actually signed through 2024, so Reeve would be having to wait a while before being able to just sign her. And despite her broken shoulders, she has proven she can still single-handedly impact a game without them (re: shooting purposes).
Did I already make the offer of Shepard ($120k in '23, $123k in '24 – all non-protected) + #12 + 2024 1RP? Cuz that seems like a better offer for Connecticut all the way around, and Minnesota still gets to shed a little bit of salary. Maybe Connecticut would have to throw in something else (Clouden, a 2RP, etc) but it still is a trade worth executing for both sides imo.
AT's jumper is still unique. Her free throws are still one of the worst in the league. I'm still amazed she's still able to do what she does with two handicapped shoulders.
Stormeo I like your new offer better. My issue though is AT is a player who should move to a contender to fill an important gap to put them over the top not a rebuilding team like the Lynx. That said if it's more of a salary driven move then it's ok though Reeve likes Shepard a lot too so she may not make a deal like that.
Interesting. Thought maybe he would move back into college with Joni going to A&M. But he moved further away now lol
I was wondering a little about that myself. Then again, being a WNBA GM is not exactly a full time job from what I can tell, so maybe there is the opportunity to work remotely.

I mean I would consider the GM a full time role with all the off-season things they have to do. But again no one wants to be in Uncasville so maybe they’ll let him do all that in Texas and come in once in a while.
