Welcome, awhom. Great to have you here. (If you're at Carondelet Saturday, please come say hi.)
I was not aware of the schedule, which looks fun. I was surprised at our schedule choice given a crowded league schedule and the presumed emotional toll of the game the day before. I probably cannot make either, but obviously our Friday game would be the priority for me.
The WNBL had a record attendance tonight in Melbourne - 7681 people attended the Southside Flyers vs Sydney Flames match. The Flames upset the Flyers 68-67 in an exciting finish - Kayla Thornton missed a short jumper in the lane at the buzzer to ensure the Flames win. Unfortunately, LJ's second career may have come to a premature end with a suspected achilles injury one minute into the game. Scans will be done tomorrow to determine severity of injury.
The Cygnett WNBL’s first game at John Cain Arena this evening has broken the league’s all-time crowd record, with 7,681 fans in attendance to see Lauren Jackson and the Jayco Southside Flyers take on the Sydney Flames.
We finally have it officially confirmed today that Sydney Flames head coach Shane Heal has been accused of bullying by several Flames players and has been suspended from the role, pending the outcome of an external investigation into the allegations. Heal has launched a court action to prevent the Flames from making any decisions on his employment. It's a mess especially with Shyla Heal's departure from the club likely due to this (which is ridiculous IMO but anyway)
