More is coming lol. I don’t know why folks are doubting Dan Padover. He is responsible for building the Aces.
Well duh, of course more is coming. Just, why this move first? What is this one-for-one trade featuring a swapping of role players a precursor to?
Also, lest we forget, the Stars/Aces franchise lucked into winning the #1 Pick thrice in a row, which played as big a part in their rise as anything else – lord knows that’s a big part of how my Storm have won as many times as we have – so he hasn’t proven to me that he’s this fanciful mastermind yet. This is the off-season he gets to be particularly creative.
Who knows but I’m not doubting Dan. Maybe we’re trading Aari? We are getting back some type of Guard in the next deal that is clear. I don’t hate or love the trade it is what it is. She can do the same stuff Erica Wheeler did who was also overpaid.
If the Dream don’t bring back Hayes and don’t trade the #3 for Gray or anything else, y’all can start Howard at the 2 and put a Haley Jones or a Diamond Miller in at the 3. Deluxe length at the wing spots. I think y’all should only bring back Nia Coffey if she’s used near-exclusively at the 3. She played more 4 last season and it clearly wasn’t working for her, at least within Wright’s system.
Diamond Miller: 45.4% overall, 25% on threes. Haley Jones: 44.5% overall, 10.3% on threes.
Miller: 44 assists/48 turnovers, one foul every 10 minutes Jones: 73 assists/49 turnovers, one foul every 19 minutes.
I'm not a big believer in Jones at the WNBA level, but I see little reason to believe Miller will be significantly better.
This is why I am perfectly fine with us trading the pick for Allisha. Last thing we need is more offensively challenged players who will make Rhyne’s job even harder. Rhyne actually had pretty decent Assist to TO numbers for someone who had the ball as much as she did and who faced the best defender every night. And she had more assists than Aari as well.

Well, well, well. dreamfan12 looks like your wish came true. I’m curious to see what the Dream are giving up.
I’m feeling like it’s some type of future draft pick connected to it since the deal won’t be finalized until the 21st. And or she’s signing an extension this weekend as well.

I am glad she's going to Atlanta now – and she'll be closer to home! I originally wanted her to go to Connecticut to help them contend, but that sure as hell ain't the plan for them anymore. 😬
But yeah, the return will be interesting. I'm skeptical Gray is worth Atlanta's 2024 1RP (maybe their 2025 one?), but perhaps there's more that Atlanta and (in particular) Dallas is exchanging here...

I wouldn’t mind getting one of their young bigs as well. I wonder if we could trade the rights to Tiffany Hayes along with the pick too? Also I would not give up the 2024 pick. That is a very deep draft. And has some bigs we could use. 2025? I’d think about that one.

Yeah, ideally 2024 is when the Dream should be finishing off the rebuild, fully prepared to contend in 2025, in which they wouldn't need more youth. Although, maybe they think the general success of last year combined with how their free agency period goes this year will put them a year ahead of schedule (the fans would love that!), in which then you don't care as much about the 2024 Draft...
Fascinating to watch this play out. I don’t know/remember much about the W in the 2000s, but this has to be the most exciting January the W has truly ever had.

Very exciting. I’m just happy to have a GM that knows wtf they are doing finally!! I think the Dream have great faith in Rhyne. And are building the proper team around her. Rhyne and Allisha are going to be dynamic. And she’s going to love it because Rhyne actually passes the ball. Lmao.
Surprised Atlanta is giving up the #3 pick for Gray.
I’m not I think it’s a good trade. Just tells me they do not like any of the prospects at the top of the draft. And Maybe the Lynx are gonna pass on Haley Jones for Diamond Miller possibly. We can still get a Center with one of those picks. And another backup Forward.

1) Dream better have full confidence Gray will eventually sign an extension this year or re-sign next year 2) Wings gotta stop accepting draft picks as form of acceptable return, considering there were supposedly three other serious suitors for Gray
I still like it for both teams. Getting Atlanta’s first rounder for 24/25 is nice. Yes it might be a low pick, but those drafts (as of right now) seem deeper. Plus Dallas could use it later to turn into something else.

Exactly why it could all blow back in Atlanta’s face if Gray truly tests free agency next year. And hopefully the Wings turn the #3 into something else, cuz their track record with specifically lottery picks (picks 1 through 4) I feel like haven’t been the greatest – other than, of course, one Allisha Gray. (It’d be nice if Satou Sabally were present and healthy more often.)

My feeling is that since Atlanta is one of the teams she wanted to go to, she’ll extend this season and won’t test it.
Now me on the other hand: I’d wait as long as possible to extend just to see if I do like it before committing

Yep, hopefully for the Dream’s sake Gray at least is on the roster one way or another in 2024.
I wonder if the Wings will send their #11 Pick or anything/anyone else (a post?) with Gray. A) They certainly don’t need it now, and B) I’m thinking of the McCowan trade last year where Indiana actually attached two 1RPs to go along with her (in which the Fever got three 1RPs back). That would both make it better on the Dream and simply make more sense in general within that context. Gray by herself just doesn’t seem enough for that kind of return.

The Draft picks outside of Boston are not as good as people are making it out to be. Whomever we would’ve drafted with that pick won’t be as good as Gray. There are some decent to ok bigs which we need. But none worth the 3rd pick. And… the Dream have done enough sucking and getting high draft picks. Time to build around our young star and make something shake.

At least with a later pick like the #11, you can always get either a steal or a diamond in the rough, or even just the right fit, no matter what the Draft quality is that year. (Naz Hillmon is one example.)
