Why would Atlanta do this? What is there to gain from trading away a younger player with a bit of upside for an aging vet who’s not always healthy throughout the season anymore? And what does this mean for McDonald as well? Way too good of a trade for Indiana, especially considering the cap numbers of it all.

There is more coming. Also that means one less SG on the team. That either means a Trade for Allisha or we are drafting someone like Milelr etc…

Robinson is an upgrade over Wheeler at the point but not by much. I don't think they're trading for Robinson to give her backup minutes (like 10 mpg) because that would be really silly. They could start Robinson and McDonald, though that's a strange fit for a starting backcourt. They could be intending to have a Robinson/McDonald/Gray backcourt rotation trio which would be interesting, but the Robinson part of it seems... superfluous. She doesn't move the dial of one's team at this point of her career and that cap space could be better used elsewhere.
If Gray comes here – still a big “if” – it better not be for the #3 pick straight-up unless she signs an extension.
But ya just gotta bring back Tiffany Hayes and you’ll have the most injury-prone starting backcourt in the league. 😕
Uhmm D Rob isn’t starting. Also it’s very likely Diamond Miller could go number 2. And Haley falls. I’m sure the Dream would prefer to have Gray over Haley Jones who can’t do anything but make layups.

D Rob isn’t starting lol. She’ll be Aari’s backup IF she’s even staying here. Could be used in a trade as well. There is no difference between Kristy and D Rob as far as production goes.
It helps Indiana’s cap situation if nothing else, but Wallace still has an opportunity for a big role in Indiana with their own backcourt situation now in disarray
AD imo deserves one more season to prove that their hip(s) can handle a full season. If the issue comes up again, then I think it’ll be time to move on for good.

Nobody else is trading for Robinson lol. At least not on that contract without some other incentives. If there really is no difference in production between Wallace and Robinson, then Atlanta have spent an additional 91k in cap space for no discernible benefit. I think Atlanta wanted a point guard they were going to play.
I personally hope McDonald still starts. Give her most of the minutes at PG and let DRob come in for her in limited minutes, with bigger minutes when McDonald just isn’t having a good game. It could be a move that works out, especially if DRob re-signs for cheaper in 2024 (which would be a sign that it will have worked out), but giving up Kristy Wallace could turn out to be a significant loss, especially since Caldwell’s recent broken leg will keep her sidelined this year and AD hasn’t yet proven they can keep themself injury-free.

I agree with this. I would just find it a little odd that Atlanta would take on a big contract to only play them 10 minutes per game. But the other thing which I forgot to mention is that maybe they think D-Rob can mentor McDonald and that could be a reason to fork out the dollars.
Atlanta used to have a lot of 2 guards and now part of the deck has been cleared (still unclear what's happening with Hayes though).

You’re wrong. Either way the Dream aren’t done making moves. They will continue work before Free Agency really starts.
I’m also not sure why these two teams in particular would do this deal this soon. What dominoes could possibly fall as a result of this deal?
More is coming lol. I don’t know why folks are doubting Dan Padover. He is responsible for building the Aces.
Well duh, of course more is coming. Just, why this move first? What is this one-for-one trade featuring a swapping of role players a precursor to?
Also, lest we forget, the Stars/Aces franchise lucked into winning the #1 Pick thrice in a row, which played as big a part in their rise as anything else – lord knows that’s a big part of how my Storm have won as many times as we have – so he hasn’t proven to me that he’s this fanciful mastermind yet. This is the off-season he gets to be particularly creative.
