Being a point guard guy, I found this article interesting because it's something I've thought about. There doesn't appear to be room on this roster for the "next in line" point guard to kind of be mentored by Bird and Whalen, who are most likely in, at least, their last Olympics. I guess they MAY pick one, but I'm not sure if they will with the players available now. Plus Sims, who was on the World Championship's team is still nursing an injury she got overseas and was not even in this camp. So the incumbent point guards are going to basically come in with no Team USA experience (besides maybe U18, U19, University Games, etc. experience).
In the poll, I have it so you can choose up to 2 because I'm thinking both Bird and Whalen will both have to be replaced together. And if you have another idea for "other" you can list that player in the comments if you'd like. I put Moriah because I think she's the most likely out of college, both because she's pretty good and she's a UConn'er.
I voted Sims and other. I have someone in mind for other that may be considered down the road if certain things fall into place, but I'm not saying (But you can probably guess )
"I told Moriah, the spots that are the most available moving forward are the perimeter spots; Sue [Bird], Diana [Taurasi], Lindsay [Whalen]. This might be the last go-around for those guys. And look around; there isn't another point guard right now that can compare to Sue. But that means someone has an opportunity to step into that role, especially this summer [in the WNBA] if she gets onto the right team, with the right teammates and right style of play. If you are a college point guard right now, you have a chance going forward to be a part of this. It's been the strength of our team and it's not going to be anymore."
Geno is such a homer. This is kind of disrespectful to the other point guards who tried out for USA to me. So basically he's saying no current pro measures up? That's why he has to look to college? Personally I don't think Sue is the best anymore. Like 4 or 5 years ago maybe.
