I'm warming to the idea. In truth, having 2/3 of the league make the playoffs is a bit much anyway. In the past few years, the West has had a huge gap between the top 2-3 and that 4th seed. This at least makes it less likely that a 14-20 team will make the playoffs easily while a couple of 15-19 teams were long eliminated. And honestly, very few 1 vs 4 matchups ever even went 3 games much less have the 4 overcome the 1. I'm not a fan of that 2nd round being 1 game - I'd prefer 3 - but the 3 and 4 seeds will have had a bit more rest so they do get a bit of an advantage. Plus, if you made it 3 games then the 1 and 2 seeds would get an even bigger rest advantage over the competition. It is geared towards setting up what we've all been asking for: a 5 game semi-final. Now part of the reason we'd been asking for that was that sometimes the conference semis had been better than the finals. This new seeding format would eliminate this. Plus, it's a common tournament format and the NFL has also been doing this forever. I'm willing to accept the occasional upset in order to have a better shot at the best semis and finals matchup.
