imo Alyssa Thomas should absolutely, unequivocally win this award if: —she bumps up her ppg to 15 —she continues to average 9-10 rpg, 7-8 apg, and 1.5-2 spg —Connecticut finishes in the Top 3
sorry to Stewie, sorry to whomever the Aces want to promote, but absolutely no one is producing in the well-rounded way AT is.
WARP overvalues rebounding and undervalues assists. It goes through a whole process of estimating rebound opportunities when it doesn't need to. Every rebound opportunity ends in a rebound for one team or the other, so all you really need is the team's rebounds and their opponents. Estimating how many of a player's rebounds the team wouldn't have gotten with a replacement player is easy, but WARP doesn't do that. It just assumes a player's rebounds are no longer available to either team, which grossly inflates their value to an individual player.
if it’s between Stewart & Wilson… it better be Stewart.
and Stewart would win it in such a two-horse race imo. Wilson has two MVPs, while Stewart only has one. ya give Stewie two-ie in order to advance the artificial rivalry between the two superstars.

I think Stewart should win but this is a terrible reason to vote for her.
If you believe the theory that the player who leads her team in scoring in the most wins should be MVP then it's a three person race of Wilson (14), Stewart (13), and Napheesa Collier (11), with Thomas (4) tied for 15th.

I always listen to the narrative that the talking heads/ESPN start to spin after about a month and sadly Thomas was never going to get it.
As for that player poll, Nneka may be good but like I don’t understand her love sometimes. She’s not winning MVP (and some have her battling for it -albeit smaller) and I don’t see her as the 3rd best player in the league anymore

Who is the best player in the league is not the same question as who is the most valuable player to her team, nor is it the same question as which player is having the best season.
One default definition is "who is the most outstanding player in the league?" but that is murky as well.
Breanna Stewart is the best player in the league and should be MVP. But it could be that Alyssa Thomas is more valuable in that, without her, Connecticut is deep in the lottery while New York, without Stewart, is still a playoff team.
