It will be interesting to see how attendance plays out for the league, given the number of middle-of-the-pack teams.
Obviously, numbers will drop after the opening day crowds fade in the averages, but what will a Chicago-Indiana game draw in August? Hopefully, fans will come to see the Liberty and Aces even if they are expected to blow out the home team, just to see the stars.
I went and wanted to look at who brings in the crowd on the road. Something that I'll try and keep up with as the season progresses. Now so far, obviously some teams have played in the lowly capacity arenas and some have been blessed with some good theme nights as the visitors. Seattle and Atlanta have barely played on the road to get a true sense of themselves....
This means (so far) when Washington goes on the road they are averaging just under 9k people coming to see them
But here it is as a of 6/12/23
Visiting Team Attendence (Who Brings in the Crowd) Average # of Games
Washington Mystics 8,991 4
Los Angeles Sparks 8,718 4
Chicago Sky 7,845 6
Seattle Storm 6,866 1
Atlanta Dream 6,696 2
Phoenix Mercury 6,476 4
Las Vegas Aces 6,233 6
Indiana Fever 6,162 5
Dallas Wings 6,048 5
New York Liberty 5,734 4
Connecticut Sun 5,731 5
Minnesota Lynx 5,261 4

I know they have a limited capacity, but Washington's numbers are disappointing to me
Washington, Dallas and Atlanta are pathetic. I'm hoping Atlanta moves to Georgia State's new arena next season which has a capacity of 8,000. Where's the Delle Donne faithful for the Mystics? Dallas continues to disappoint with their attendance.
Also, Sun fans don't show up until the playoffs. That's when they'll sellout Mohegan Sun.
Additionally, the Liberty's home game this Sunday against Phoenix is 99% soldout. Joe Tsai and Barclays Center needs to open up the 200s so they don't turn anyone away like they did for their home opener.

My big thing with DC is that they have some star power and were good last year. They should be selling out that Entertainment Arena every home game. I don't care who they are playing. Dallas is improved this year, so I'll be watching them and I hope they can get some bigger numbers as we go. Atlanta has been bad, but they have some good players and hopefully improve.

Dallas having a "party zone" type thing in a 7k arena is really sad lol. Hate seeing those and I hope the Lynx never bring one back.
