Yvonne Anderson is a good call ... the WNBL, however, is a long way from the WNBA. Success there is like success in the NCAA -- some of it will transfer to the W, but the level of athleticism, size and skill is several steps above, so the transition is usually problematic.
Some former WNBL players can & have made the transition – that’s why you try 'em out. They also tend to be [able to be] more committed to the W than other international groupings.
So Anderson seems someone who needs another shot. I’ll have to check out her overseas highlights, since she wasn't able to get off the bench much for the Sun last year. Thanks, y’all.
I know Lauren Jackson's younger than Sue Bird, but it's still crazy to think Birdy's now retired while LJ's still playing [and able to produce clearly], considering we had a proper sendoff for LJ here in Seattle several years ago now.
I believe her comeback was wanting to play in the World Cup. I don't think she's planning on playing past this year and trying to go to the Olympics.
She's not going to the 2024 Olympics, but I have no idea how long she plans to play in the WNBL.
The thing about LJ playing now is you have to remember 1) she has had a decade away from the sport so her body has somewhat recovered and 2) she's not playing without the aid of medical cannabis, which she says has allowed her to return to basketball.
Stewart is gone. Time to reset. I think it’s time to trade Loyd, regardless of whether or not she wants to go (though she probably does). We still only have her & Russell on the roster.
With Slooty not actually committed to a team yet, I just don’t know why she’d want to come home now if she wouldn’t be competing for a title… which, uhh, she wouldn’t be. 😬
So it's plausible none of their top players are getting traded due to both Stewart and Sloot taking way below the max.
Thanks, ESPN talking heads, for getting my hopes up. 😭 I feel like an idiot telling other people elsewhere that it could happen.
It’s back to maybe just trading Loyd & having a real shell of a team, I guess. We’ll be in the running for Caitlin Clark amongst others, that’s for sure.
NY still has a few, young pieces that they don't need. Send Sabally & Willoughby to Seattle for their 2023 & 2024 second rounders.
And we would certainly still be willing to take on a Dolson or Laney if need be. An Achonwa, a Hamby, a Hebard – whichever other allegedly pregnant players are out there. This is the year to take on a dump. Shit, dump us Wheeler’s contract in Indiana lmfao.
