k it’s been well over a week since Dojkić chucked up the deuces. do we… do we care about filling her vacant spot? do we care about giving people tryouts en route to next year? or maybe we’re waiting for a specific individual to become available. (i guess i could see us wanting Westbrook back…) or are we just not gonna give a damn and sign absolutely no one?
seems pointless at this point. Quinn went 9 deep last night in their loss to Minnesota. Yvonne Turner continues to collect a paycheck to sit on their bench.
Given that teams seldom practice, and there are no minutes available in a game, adding a player to "see what she can do" does seem pretty pointless.
Now if you knew the player would be on the roster next year, it would give her a chance to start learning the system, but even then, we're talking about a 10th and 11th player, and as I've said too often, if they're playing, you're losing anyway.
i too found that moment odd and unsettling. the other thing is that you can see in the clip of it that Loyd clearly wanted to keep playing and keep pushing, and she appeared noticeably deflated when she realized she was in the minority in that desire.
i fear that might be the moment that seals the deal that she will decide to sign with another team next season. and i'm not even convinced she'll for sure go home to [ironically] Chicago either.
it is in our best interest to see the Sky lose, as them being in the lottery would help out our odds at winning the #1 pick. no, the playoffs were never in the cards for us, but still. what seems to be an obvious tank-related effort [or lack thereof] when you're at home is not a good look.
i don't believe it's the first time we've kinda waved the white flag in a game perhaps prematurely this season either, from what i can remember.
and along with the Sky winning at LA the other night and snagging the tiebreaker in that series – they're now only 0.5 games back of LA, with an easier remaining schedule than the Sparks imo – i've become much more fearful that we will indeed have the worst odds at that #1 pick thanks to the Sky scrapping their way back into the playoff picture. and maybe that's what we deserve.
