In the case of Davis, she was pretty much cut in Chicago initially in favor of Rebekah Gardner, since the two both play the same position(s). If Gardner hadn’t been impactful in the early-goings, I wouldn’t have been surprised if Wade cut Gardner before contracts became guaranteed and brought back Davis. He did bring her back on a hardship at one point.
The Storm then brought Davis in on a hardship. However, I don’t think she was ever a threat to unseat Talbot or Prince, since both players had some level of productivity both this year and last.
Finally, the Merc started bringing Davis in – this time on multiple hardship deals – towards the end of the season, where she ended the season on the Merc’s roster. I’d say there’s a good chance she’ll be brought back to the Merc next season (if that’s the team she wants to return to), especially after her final impression on the team re: her 23-point playoff game.
There were reports the Storm tried to bring in an unnamed 12th player when we could, but the player became unavailable. I believe it was lynxmania who theorized it was Davis, seeing as around that time, Phoenix re-signed her for the final time of the season. Going along with that theory, which makes sense and aligns with the timeline of events, perhaps Davis chose extended playing time-related opportunity in Phoenix over an end-of-bench role in Seattle. And perhaps that’ll prove to have been the right choice.
(Sorry for hijacking this thread with all things Davis. 😅) Uhh anyway, @ the Dream: Try signing her away from Phoenix next year! 😈
+/- seems like one of those stats that’s only useful to analyze in .500 or better teams – though I guess one could get away with saying that about any stat lmao
I have to disagree. It's a comparative stat (and I'm going to do more research with an NBA analytics' person) so the fact that Howard is worse, per minute, than anyone else on the team does reveal something.
And the numbers are all internal, within the team, so it's not like comparing Howard to Shakira Austin.
That’s fine. I’m personally not too worried about Howard. She has the tools to be a very good all-around player. Plus, she was your typical #1 Pick on a bad team. In time, she’ll theoretically both improve individually and be surrounded by more talent as Atlanta gets closer to contending.
I posted a lengthy reply to essentially the same issue that came up in the Wings thread. clayk you might take a look and bring up some the issues I raised with the NBA analytics person you mentioned in that thread. For a lot of teams the numbers make a lot of sense. For example - with Seattle all the starters have big positives for the on-off/100 stats, but for Dream and Lynx the number look a little odd (and while they are probably rights, it's not clear what they are telling us.)
The new GSU arena is now open. I have not seen anything yet to suggest the Dream will be moving there, but it seems like the perfect venue. There is a short video showing the arena in the article.
The latest addition to Georgia State’s growing presence in the neighborhood and in downtown Atlanta, the Convocation Center at 455 Capitol Ave. has a seating capacity of up to 8,000 and it will host large-scale events such as First-Year Convocation, commencement and concerts. It will also be the new home court for Georgia State men’s and women’s basketball.
Georgia State officials hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Convocation Center at noon Sept. 15
The Dream did have 8 sellouts at Gateway in 2022(3,138). Would love to see them move to Georgia State's new arena. If the Dream actually become good by 2024, they might need a bigger arena.
I sort of prefer players not go overseas, though in her case it might actually be beneficial. She does need to work on her outside shooting and scoring overall. Some players have done that w/o going abroad.
I'd say best case scenario for the Dream might be Haley Jones at the 3 pick but she might be the kind of player Reeve likes a lot. Miller seems too injury prone. Too many questions around the names tossed around for the top 5-6 picks. Big problem with this draft for the Dream is that with Howard the Dream don't need a 3 but the draft has a lot of prospects around the same size playing the same position.
You've already acknowledged how Parker isn't a center randy , so I'd think the front office would try to put her back to her natural 4 spot and then address the 5 spot in free agency (BJones, Stevens, etc). If they completely strike out, I guess you hope Minnesota doesn't need a center themselves by the time Draft Night arrives.

I seem to recall you said Parker really wasn't a 4 so I'm going with 5. Plus, I'm just listing who Dream have under contract or have rights to. I'm not that optimistic about FA. I could see some trades being made, like maybe 3 or 8 to Dallas for Gray if they really are intent on trading her. That may no longer be the case after the Wings coaching change. Or maybe 3+8 =2?.
There are plenty of teams that need to build their bench and dump salary so 8 (maybe even 3) seems like trade bait.
Really interesting and in depth article about Angel. She does want to come back and Atlanta gets mentioned a lot in the article, but it's not a sure thing and she "really wants a ring." The article also touches on her leaving the Lynx, her split with Carter, her time with the Aces and her various other business project (including producing a horror movie....).

If found the article interesting that after being cut/bought out by Minnesota she thought Vegas would pick her up despite not realizing they didn't have the cap space to do so. Not sure who would want her for a farewell season since she hasn't played since 2020.
