lynxmania and WHEN is the B1G (aka specifically your Gophers) gonna be polite and invite my Huskies into the mix, hmm?
Stanford and Oregon first and then I’ll get back to you lol
Omg not Stanford in particular before UW 🤮 And I think wherever Oregon goes, we go – for better or worse. 🙃
Jokes aside, I really hope this is just UCLA & USC calling the Pac's bluff in wanting a much bigger piece of the conference's revenue pie. But many have already brought this up: Would a significantly bigger portion for the two be competitive with even just a regular portion of the B1G's pie that the LA schools would get?
At this point, Larry Scott drove this conference straight to the ground, and I hope he [redacted]. He really is about to literally destroy this conference and he hasn't even been the Commissioner in a full year. This just goes to show he was worse than we even thought, maybe.
This also just goes to show how much the football-dominated college sports landscape has degenerated. Maybe it was a long time coming anyway, even without the 'help' of Larry Scott. I don't think he directly had anything to do with Texas & Oklahoma going to the SEC, anyway.
At the end of the day, I have to admit, I pretty much just care that my Huskies are in a good place – whether that be in the Pac-12, the B1G, or really any other high-level, competitive conference. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The Oklahoma/Texas moved signaled the end of times IMO. We are going to have 3 major conferences (SEC, Big 100, and the ACC). Maybe this is just a bluff but allegedly they’ve been discussing for months about this. The Big 10 is trapping the other two into that southern corner and taking the rest of the map lol

It's just a damn shame for the student-athletes, who would actually be the ones regularly making the trip out west or out east to play. 1000% not fair to them, but as usual, the student-athletes get caught in the crossfire of NCAA politics. No one gives a shit about them, just like no one gives a shit about today's youth in a broader, more generalized sense.
It is going to be incredibly fascinating to watch – if this move goes through – what other movements will result from this, because a lot of shit is poised to result from this. IMO, the Pac-12 simply isn't gonna be able to recover from defections like this in the way that the Big 12 seemingly has.

I have to wonder if they leaked this was happening with the deal basically done so that nothing could change. This is certainly a domino effect. Any big TV market or financially/revenue strong university has to begin looking at their options.

The Big 12 might end up kicking themselves with taking those lower level conference teams because they might have been able to stag a Pac 12 school that might wanna bounce.

I suppose it's not too late though, seeing as the Big 12 is still only at a net of 12 schools, and remaining Pac-12 schools would be wise to start looking to dip.
Especially with BYU a new member and Colorado a former member, I can see the Big 12 inviting (back) Colorado, Utah, and the Arizona schools. Hell, they may go for more.
Washington, Oregon, California, and Stanford should be even hotter commodities. Meanwhile, Washington State and Oregon State may just have to move down a tier (or more) into somewhere like the Mountain West.
I have no idea what the ACC does as a result of any of this.
If the Pac-12 leaders at the top think the conference can still survive this, they're completely delusional.
And honestly, several people think the Pac-12, ACC, and Big 12 will all go down in the near future due to the tv-deal dynamics of it all, with ESPN & the SEC countered by FOX & the B1G. They might be right, too. Things are only just getting started.

It has been said that the Big Ten has historically only extended invitations to schools that are part of the AAU, the Association of American Universities (leading research universities).
AAU member schools in the Pac-12 – in addition to USC & UCLA – include Oregon, Washington, Cal, Stanford, Colorado, Utah, and Arizona.
AAU member schools in the ACC include Duke, North Carolina, Virginia, Georgia Tech, and Pittsburgh.
AAU member schools in the Big 12 include Kansas and temporarily Texas.
AAU member schools in the SEC include Missouri, Vanderbilt, Florida, Texas A&M, and eventually Texas.

If the Big Ten has a modicum of decency (a big if... even a B1G if), they'll continue their standards of inviting only AAU-member schools, of which TCU is not part of. Then again, what even matterz anymore lmfao just please take my poor Huskies in, we're shelter dawgs at this point jfc
Stanford and Oregon are the prizes, even though Stanford's program isn't that strong. My guess is Oregon is gone. Arizona and Washington may remain because now they could dominate a P5 league.
But imagine Cal or Washington State trying to compete in the Big 10 or Big 12. Women's basketball might be their strongest teams, and neither would likely get to .500.

My and many people's guess is that wherever Oregon goes, Washington goes. If it's the Big Ten, I'm guessing it'll eventually include Stanford (and possibly Cal purely from a numbers aspect). The name of the game for Power Conferences now seems all about having the bigger programs and being in the bigger markets.
There really shouldn't be a Pac-12 when this is all said & done. (Thanks a lot, Larry Scott.) Of course, some think there may not be a Big 12 or an ACC eventually, either. Things are definitely headed in a SuperConference direction, though.
How the SEC in particular may respond to this – especially as the Big Ten almost openly is not done expanding – might be the most fascinating consequence.

While it's great to be a fan of a school in one of the two desired conferences, this shit sucks! I miss regionalized conferences with 10-12 members max. Gophers better make the Big Ten football championship game this year or it may never happen haha! The trips from Piscataway to LA are going to be fun!
