Other around-the-League thoughts on the first day of the season...
Can't watch tomorrow's games. Good luck to New York toad455 & bluedevilsdsufan5 , and Atlanta randy (if you're rooting for the Dream to win, that is).
- We know nothing about Washington yet cuz they haven't played nobody, period. EDD played today, but it just seems like she's in one of those "nothing is guaranteed" situations for really the rest of her career. It just takes one bad movement or one rough hit for her, sadly.
- We really don't know much about LA yet cuz they beat a Chicago team with much of its second unit on hardship contracts in OT, so I really can't judge that one much either. Looks like Chicago should've had it, judging by that final play in regulation (it wasn't a foul, but Evans wyd why didn't you foul Canada earlier in that possession!!). Took my eyes some getting used to with seeing Jordin Canada playing for evil LA of all teams. Also hated that she made all three of those FTs when she DIDN'T make her FTs in a Storm loss in Chicago last season that went on to cost us the game. Not to say f*ck her, just that obviously I'm still mad lmao.
- Phoenix is probably gonna be better defensively when Brianna Turner comes back, but... I mean, the Aces I don't think are for real this season, yet that result happens. Phoenix missing its best player for likely the whole year (Griner) and with a first-year head coach of pros is... not a recipe for success. I feel extra justified in putting them as a Bottom-5 team. 😎 I'm sad that Griner's situation is what it is and wish it had never happened (no doubt it's gonna take her a while to recover mentally and maybe even physically even when she does get out), but because it did, I still don't feel bad for Phoenix as a team/franchise, especially when they still proudly employ noted transphobe S*ph** C*nn*ngh*m. 🙃
- Happy that Kelsey Plum is back in the starting lineup where she mf belongs! I should've picked her to be MIP instead of Ionescu, cuz it sure seems like she could win it this year if she averages 20 PPG (which she's certainly capable of if she could average 31 PPG at a Power-5 college). I don't think Vegas is a contender quite yet, though – which could be a problem if Hammon since Hamby, Plum, and CGray are all free agents next year. Don't know what this year is supposed to amount to for a team like the Aces.
