Speaking of Park, they faced each other in the second game. Park had 18 points, 13 rebounds, 6 assists, 4 steals, and 3 blocks in 36 minutes. Pak played 29 points, 17 rebounds, and 4 assists and managed to play all 40 minutes. I wish we had footage to get an idea if she actually has skills. I had flagged her back in 2017 when she was warming the bench at the Asia Cup, but they have avoided FIBA competition so there was no way of tracking her progress. Even though they lost to South Korea, they should be favored against Thailand, which would get them to the next round.
As for Park, hopefully she was able to heal fully during her serious mental health break and will be back at her best again. South Korea should be participating in the 2024 extra qualifiers, although I do not believe that they have fully explained how those will work, but she could be available for the WNBA again. You have to figure that she is at least as useful as Cayla George or that they could get a third round pick for her rights or something.
even despite a lack of footage, those numbers for both Park & Pak are very good in an all-around sense.
Pak has 36 points, 14 rebounds, and 7 blocks in 31 minutes against Thailand, which is not very good. They get India in the quarterfinals, which seems somewhat winnable.
Given that Park has had her fair share of injuries, it may make sense for her to just not bother with the WNBA in the future. She figures to be in a position to make $3 Million or more after taxes just by sticking in the WKBL for a while, which means that she might feel it is riskier to play all year and possibly get hurt while on the vet minimum.
