Solid rundown. I can't believe you'd give up on Rennia Davis though since she hasn't played a single game yet! No problem – the Storm will gladly take her off y'all's hands. 😈
The Storm would also gladly take Dangerfield too, but Reeve ought to keep her in case Clarendon for one reason or another doesn't come back – and even if they do. I answered "Yes" to the poll; I saw enough of Dangerfield in the wubble to know that she's got what it takes. She'll never be good defensively due to her lack of height, but she has range and is crafty offensively. She could blossom into a showrunner type of PG, so she's definitely worth holding onto since this was only her second year. Why can't she bounce back from this year? Besides, PGs notoriously take a long time to get comfortable in this league. She's already been on the team for two years – ya may as well continue to invest in her unless she isn't able to get back to her 2020 form by the time her rookie contract is up.
I've never been impressed by Achonwa much, but it seems like y'all are stuck with her. At least she'll be cheaper next year and the year after that? 😅Otherwise, I honestly would move on from Shepard, Banham, and Carleton today if it were up to me – just to mix things up. I don't think any of them are going to keep growing in this League – or at least on the Lynx (that's how I feel about Canada on the Storm). And who they are right now doesn't really cut it. Maybe things would be different had they been surrounded by more of a veteran presence on the bench – that was probably supposed to be Achonwa & Powers before their respective injuries during the season changed things.
Speaking of Powers, I don't quite know what to make of her. She calls her own number out there so much, especially in the Lynx's playoff game. Now did she have a good impact in that game? Yes she did. But I feel like no one else was able to really get involved in the game once she asserted herself. And the problem is, she doesn't have superstar talent where you can rely on her like that game after game. The first-off-the-bench role seems to suit her the most – but then, you also have to be careful with how long you leave her out there if you're Reeve. If Powers starts missing shots and it kills the team's momentum, the opposing team can easily secure it even after Powers gets pulled. Reeve will have to navigate that dynamic carefully.
In terms of Collier, I have to wonder aloud here for a sec. She's a star, which considering she was a #6 overall pick is amazing, but will she be more than who she is now? Does she have that killer instinct that superstars have where their team needs them to get a bucket late in a close game with high stakes, and they simply do it? I'm skeptical of that. Again, not many expected her to be like this, but I guess my question is, what kind of talent will she need alongside her in order for the Lynx to truly become a Top-2 team again? If Fowles returns and the supporting cast is strong, is that enough? There are multiple key questions that went unanswered this year considering how injury-plagued the team was, even if Collier & Fowles weren't.
And if Fowles for one reason or another doesn't return... then what? Does it become 'win the Tina Charles sweepstakes' or bust? Try to acquire another star player out there? A big trade for Reeve's favorite flopper Nneka Ogwumike? (Sorry, had to fit that one in ) One thing I know for sure is, Reeve as a GM will get creative if she has to, which makes things all the more interesting...
