Time to be realistic though. If the Liberty do feel the need to acquire some posts, they're gonna be the more mobile type that can fit in with the system. Russell would be a fit there, as established (I could live with that if Tina Charles settled here in the PNW).
Otherwise, I'm thinking Hines-Allen and Billings โ both RFAs โ would be their two realistic targets.
With Hines-Allen, you might be able to sign her right out from under the Mystics if the deal was lucrative enough (close to regular max). If the Mystics can't match, they can't match, or they ask for a lowly piece or two in return (of which, the Liberty have plenty).
With Billings, Atlanta would almost certainly be able to match since they have all those unsigned players aka extra cap space as leverage. So with her, you wouldn't have to pay so much for her (I'm thinking somewhere around $140k?), but you'd have to give up more. I'd offer Jones + Shook, or Onyenwere straight-up. If you can live with Onyenwere + Shook (I would) should negotiations reach that point, I'd pull the trigger on it.
And yes, I think the LFO should be inventive and actually try to sign both. Imagine this team with two of Howard, Hines-Allen, and Billings out on the floor at the same time? Ugh, it would be a damn miracle at that point (how sad! Lmao, but that's where we're at!). And yes, assuming the two players sign for about what I've suggested which seems reasonable, the Liberty would still be able to go with a 12-player roster.
Currently the team actually has 12 players under contract next year, but almost $200k left in cap space(!!). Y'all have both cap space AND asset flexibility! Now that the rebuild is firmly over, USE IT. This team could get pretty darn creative if they wanted to. Again, I really hope they want to!
