Goodness gracious @ Dallas losing to Indiana. Despite Vivians & KMitchell combining to go 8-31? And the Wings let Lindsay Allen hit multiple 3PT shots?? Embarrassing.Hardship player Emma Cannon was huge for the Fever. If they can't afford to cut one of the pre-existing 12 players & sign her onto a regular contract, they need to find a way to keep three players unavailable at all times. Still not sure how it didn't work out for Cannon in Vegas when she played so well for the Aces in last year's playoffs.
I get why Charli Collier's no longer starting for the Wings, but Alarie doesn't seem to be doing a whole lot as her replacement. Fwiw, in Alarie's 20 minutes of action, she was a -5. In Collier's 6 minutes, she was a +12.
Meanwhile, Kuier and Dungee DNP-CD. Time for Dallas to do some wheelin' & dealin' imo. I get that they're still really young, but it seems like they're missing something they just don't have.
I almost feel like Vegas knew that Stokes would end up available so they positioned themselves to get her with the Cannon release. I know they went with Holmes first, but it just seems that it worked out really well in the end.
Dallas has been meaning to make a deal for a long time. The problem that I see with it is that 1) They can't seem to find anyone and 2) They wait too long. 1 meaning that someone and somewhere must have liked to take a pick from them or something or even maybe one of their role players. The problem then becomes 2 because they take players and never play them or play them horrible which lowers their value in return. Why would anyone want to trade anything of value for Dungee now? Like yes I think she could maybe become a decent player, but hell I'm not giving anything higher than maybe a low 2nd Rounder now since I know they ain't playing her. They ruin their own players trade value tbh.
The other problem with them moving pieces is that the 2 best pieces to move IMO are Gray and Thornton. But I'm not sure trading their only vets is wise for them. And I hate that Dallas fans keep asking for PP balls... like they suck at draft and playing them and ya'll want more people that have 0 experience and 0 playing time in their future from VJ.
Admittedly, I didn't actually see the game. *cue the booing* Alarie is actually pretty good defensively, I agree – and she's definitely not starting cuz of her offense. Still don't really see much of a high ceiling in her game though – not like when some of us were comparing her to a mini-EDD. Whew, we were way off on that one. Yikes...
It's clear now that Dallas should've been more aggressive in free agency like the Liberty were. When are they bringing that big veteran talent aboard, hmm? Did they even try to sign Laney and trade for Howard & Whitcomb? Even Connecticut who never used to get anyone managed last year to trade for DeWanna Bonner, who has never been a superstar but has clearly been who the Sun have needed. No, instead, the Wings added zero new veteran free agents and singlehandedly got younger by trading away Samuelson (and some pocket change in the form of a lesser pick) for the #1 Pick. They really didn't need one more rookie on the roster let alone three. So idk, maybe they really do have the League-wide reputation of being a shitty organization like Cambage and Diggins-Smith once espoused, which is why no one wants to sign or get traded to them.
But lmfao @ Dallas fans basically asking to continue to get even younger. Also... who's gonna remind them that they already have LA's 1RP next year, which at this point is all but guaranteed to be a lottery pick?? That's the only pick they theoretically have any business keeping, but I will say that these lottery picks next year might actually be valued by GMs and therefore able to be flipped into good players if GMs feel the Draft is better than average (which, it might be). It's somehow not too late for Greg Bibb to actually trade the picks away in exchange for centerpiece veteran talent. No offense to Jefferson, Harrison, Gray, or Thornton... but clearly they're not enough. Throw one of them in a deal if ya have to; none of those players are untradeable skill-wise. It probably doesn't happen before tomorrow's deadline, but between now & next free agency is the last chance to put it all on the table imo. It's the last year of Ogunbowale's contract – and no matter how we feel about if she should be their centerpiece young player or not: if the organization doesn't keep her happy by adding who they need to and subsequently let her go to another team, that could honestly set them right back to the beginning of their rebuild (or worse – relocation/folding cuz of built-up disinterest).
