It may also become a self-fulfilling prophecy that Collier is better than Mack. Mack may not get much a of chance because the Sky are roster space limited and will likely give the benefit of the doubt to their FRP. Had Mack been someone's FRP, she probably makes the roster and shows what she can do.
I mean, you’re absolutely right. And that’s probably what sucks about this the most. In all likelihood, we’ll never be able to compare the trajectories of their careers when Mack’s path to just making a roster probably won’t be linear like Collier’s is. And of course, even if you make a roster somehow, that certainly doesn’t mean you’ll continue to stick or get good minutes while on it.
Maybe teams no longer can afford to have someone on their roster that they can stash to develop. She is really raw and with how rosters have been shaking out, that might have been a negative for her.
It’s very possible, which certainly won’t quash the demands for expansion. (That’s the only bright side I can think of.) In terms of her rawness, I have to disagree a little bit. Defensively, I really think she’d be able to adjust – if not at first, then after a little bit. She has known the physicality by now having gone against players like Candace Parker in practice. Even if that part has been a struggle to adjust to, she’ll always have her long arms and at least a knack for shot-blocking. And offensively, I just don’t think she’d be less raw than Collier appears to be now.
Still, however many minutes that she gets today will probably be telling. It’s a bit nerve-wracking.
