But they are basing it off a translated fibaeurope page that says she "damages some tendons and will need surgery." Since there could be interpretations of lesser Achilles surgery issues, I'm not yet writing her season off. But since she's dependent on her speed, this can't be good.
Alright, so Connecticut now has #3 and #4. What will they do with them? Trade #3? Trade both of them?
If I was running the Connecticut franchise, I would package 3 & 4 to San Antonio for two and take Moriah. That team's biggest letdown last season was at the point guard spot. If Hightower is healthy that's another ball handler but she's more of a threat on the wing. MoJeff gives them an elite level decision-maker who is always going to compete defensively.
In addition, I think both teams could benefit from Alex Montgomery and Alyssa Thomas being included.
Montgomery is a solid defender and three point shooter and never really seemed to fit in San Antonio. In Connecticut, they need as many shooters and athletes as they can get around Bone/Chiney.
Thomas gives Hughes the size he's been missing at the three since Erin Perperoglou played there. She also immediately upgrades their rebounding which has been a struggle.
I'd also like to see Connecticut come out of this thing with a starting front court of Camille Little/Ogwumike/Bone.
Is it too early for Conn. & SA to have a "gentleman's agreement" in place? Hughes has lost Hammon, Malcom-Young, and now Robinson(it seems)in consecutive seasons, he needs to pull a MASSIVE rabbit out of his hat. I don't see the Stars signing any significant FA"s,looks like another long season, and back to the '17 lottery.
I agree that having the 3 and the 4 picks (just like last year) give the Sun the flexibility to offer something to SA to ensure the 2 pick and Jefferson. I don't see Robinson as being done for the year. I've seen only one report that suggests her achilles is torn and she herself is tweeting about treatments in LA. The only way they'd make a trade to lose Jefferson is if DRob is expected to play. I also don't see him giving up on Montgomery after a year given that he traded away his first round pick for her. He's really old-school in targeting players he feels fit his system. I don't even see Conn. and SA needing a gentleman's agreement, either, as the Stars could just tell them what they'd be potentially interested in to make a deal happen.
I'm annoyed because I was secretly hoping the Storm could deal for that 4 pick and turn it around for the 2 pick somehow. Greedy, I know. I assume Storm will have Sue for at least one more year but the backup PG/heir apparent slot is looming larger each year. Atlanta seems to be somewhat happy with its guards, I guess, because they've traded away their chance at perhaps Mitchell in order to get a relatively-sized center in addition to having Dantas and Gray. Not sure I see how Hayes, Schimmel and Ajavon will be enough.
The Sun suddenly have a lot of options. I could see them wanting to sign or trade for one more veteran leader type and take one player in the draft.I do believe that they want to end up with Jefferson even if Tuck comes out. I saw yet another article saying she has at least given it some thought BECAUSE her dream was to play in the WNBA and her knee will limit how long she can. She even said that she no longer expects to be able to play well into her 30s. I still believe there is a chance. Whether she goes this year or next, though, the question will be what value will she be assigned. She's already described her knee as being an old woman's knee so what franchise would be willing to take the risk?
I keep seeing people saying the Sun want Jefferson. Is it only because she's from UCONN? I guess I'm confused because I was of the thought that Chelsea Gray was going to be their point guard of the future. I know she was behind Jasmine Thomas in the rotation last year, I guess to have a veteran presence on the floor or something and to not put too much pressure on Gray to have the reigns completely at point in her first official year. Or maybe they're not sold on Gray completely. She's not exactly making waves in Turkey right now. Either way that gives them 2 really young and inexperienced point guards if they take Jefferson too. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing if they're good enough. Just some thoughts.

Not winning a championship with Jasmine Thomas at the point guard spot. Usually in the draft, you fill holes. They're full on a post rotation even if Kelsey Griffin doesn't return. They've got athletic wings who can create. What hole should they fill? Point guard. Insert Jefferson.
There's no "UConn-Connecticut complex." UConn just produces pro-caliber players once in a while. Besides, "inexperience" doesn't mean much when the Sun are a few years out from being a championship caliber team.

Like all of you, I'm not sure what the Sun are planning to do with those picks. It's not like Seattle will give up Breanna Stewart and if there's anything I learned from last year it's that Dan Hughes is unpredictable. It could be that the Sun are looking for a trade for a veteran and hence why they are loading up the picks.

Well I wholeheartedly agree with the fact Jas Thomas is not the starting point you want if you have championship aspirations. But she could be back up. My main question about what I posted was on Chelsea Gray. Do they believe in her or don't they? Is she the point guard of their future or not? If they trade up for or pick Jefferson as a lottery pick, this tells me that they don't think so.

I think the coaching change might be coming into play. From what I read of Miller's style, it relies on a superior PG. While they could make do with Gray, they've also talked about aggressively pursuing a higher draft pick and hinted that yes, they want a UConn player on the team. There's really only two teams they could be targeting. Gray's a decent PG but Jefferson's an upgrade from her. Gray could easily become their backup 2 and a backup wing was also on their target list according to one of their media followers.
I'm watching Oregon State @ U-W, and the more I look at Hamblin, the less she looks like a first-rounder to me. I see few reasons she should go any higher than say, Jen Hamson did last year.

I agree. I'm starting to get that sense too. And even though she's my favorite Canadian college player, I feel like she's regressed from last year.

I can still see her in the first round for someone who really wants height (Minnesota) because she's decent on defense. But, yeah, she is slow and not nearly as effective offensively as I'd expect her to be. When I see a center who doesn't fight for position and lets the defense cover her, I get frustrated. She relies on her PG being able to pass high to get her the ball.
What do you think of Jamie Weisner? I can't decide whether she'll be 2nd round or 3rd. She's tough and relentless and can hit from distance which might make her a new Tricia Liston but she also doesn't impress me as an offensive threat, just more of a shooter in a good system to get her the ball.
Well... Alston can play. And will actually attempt to play defense.
LOL. That was funny. Alston can play, and Sammy can't (I'm assuming you mean). LOL. I'm going to try and ignore such a ridiculous statement...
By responding to it. Lol. Prahalis shouldn't be in the league. The only way she's effective is if you set a million screens for her and let her hold the ball all game long. Sorry (not really) nobody is interested in her being their offense. She's right where she belongs.

Oh look. Another "expert" who thinks he/she knows why she's not in the league. And an expert who obviously has never seen her play to boot. I suppose she got 900 assists in college by holding the ball all day long. I suppose she was 7th in the league in assists her rookie year by holding the ball all day long. And yeah, she uses screens. But if you knew anything about basketball, you'd know that the screen is an essential part of the pick-and-roll (which she EXCELS at), one of the most essential plays in basketball. So why don't you quit while you're behind and make comments on something you actually know something about.
