She left the team due to the death of her father. It doesn't appear like she'll return to the team. However, if she plans to play for France in the Olympics, that would cause a penalty on Williams assuming she'd need to leave the WNBA to join her national team (late June).

If she signs a WNBA contract before July 15th, she cannot leave the team until that date. If she is not under contract, she still cannot create an offseason playing obligation for herself before that date. They could probably hide her participation in practices with France, but appearing in an exhibition game during that period would be too obvious for her to not get banned from signing for the rest of the season.

Oh that’s terrible. I didn’t realize that when I asked the question. I imagine basketball isn’t a concern for her right now.
