[Tina] Charles, who joined the Storm midseason last year, is currently not with any WNBA team and according to her agent is still determining what she might do this WNBA season.
Mid season signing to possibly chase a ring? But I don't see New York or Vegas wanting or needing her. Unless Chicago becomes desperate with their poor post rotation and brings her in?
Minnesota’s placement stood out to me the most, but Reeve as we know can coach 'em up, and it may be hard for some to see Minny having two bad years in a row under her. i don’t get the placement myself, and yet i do. virtually all of this to me is semi-plausible at worst.
my kiss-of-death final standings placements, as in, as much as i'd like it to happen it's not gonna happen
1. Liberty – charter everywhere secretly or under different aliases if you have to – win that first goddamn title at any/all cost!! 2. Aces – arrest this organization, Officer (but the Officer is Cathy E. and she forgot her badge at the station, fuck) 3. Sun – maybe the real 'latest star player to want out' was the friends we made along the way 4. Mystics – Pseudo-Healthy EDDs & Thibault Nepo Babies: A 2023 Mystics Story 5. Wings – young caucasian shooters be damned (that wasn't an expression but rather a command from Ogunbowale) 6. Mercury – Griner's back, just in time to be 1 of 2 All-Stars for the team (or as Nygaard might call it if the other is Diggins-Smith, 1 All-Star) 7. Sparks – quoth Nneka Ogwumike, "this is the first time i've ever seen our organization not be complete & total bullshit" 8. Sky – why re-sign your star players when you can simply trade away all your draft-capital flexibility instead? 9. Dream – to the tune of Earth, Wind, & Fire's September: "do you remember? the end of days for Kelly Loeffler?" (cuz i still do) 10. Lynx – calling it now: length of time of rebuild from start to end = length of time between Maya Moore's last game played and her retirement announcement 11. Storm – did you say we traded Stewie for 'unknown athletes'? weird but ok... wait, you really said we traded Stewie for 'emoji tweets'?? 12. Fever – for the first time in a while, they might have some attending fans plural now
1) Las Vegas (defending champions, added depth) 2) New York (the other superteam)
Tier 2:
3) Connecticut (still very good, arguably a better balanced team this year) 4) Washington (great defense, need more offensive juice outside of EDD and Atkins though)
Tier 3:
5) Atlanta (team continuity, added a borderline All Star, good coach - I think Atlanta is making a move this year) 6) Dallas (I think this is a poorly constructed team, but there is decent talent here) 7) Phoenix (no idea how Griner is going to play this year. If she can play anything close to 2021 form, Phoenix will be higher than this) 8) Chicago (post play looks weak, but perimeter play could be a lot of fun) 9) Minnesota (I am unconvinced by a team with no point guards or centers. Hopefully Reeve won't blame her players again if the Lynx struggle) 10) Los Angeles (roster issues due to an injury and maternity leave. Curt Miller could coach them higher but there are glaring weaknesses like playmaking and outside shooting)
Tier 4:
11) Seattle (Need shooters badly. They should still have an ok defense) 12) Indiana (At least they have Boston to clean up after their crappy perimeter defense now)
Tier 3 is kind of a blur IMO. Not much difference between #5 and #10. I wouldn't be surprised if a Tier 3 team drifts closer towards being Tier 4 level.

Winning/over .500 records 1. Las Vegas- super team defending champs got more super, can they withstand the pressure to defend amidst spicy allegations? 2. New York- new super team with some old/overseas ties, can they gel and stay healthy? 3. Washington- similar core, even better defensively with Sykes replacing Clark? Can they manage EDD properly again? 4. Connecticut- lost a superstar but gained an all star, maybe better positional balance now? Can their new coach keep them at the top?
Last season #5 Washington was 22-14 (.611) while #6 Dallas was 18-18 (.500)….I think LV and NY are gonna have pretty dominant records this year.
.500 or below records 5. Dallas- they are an interesting mix of players but talented, starters defensively could pop off and shield Arike while she bails them out on offense, can they get cohesion with a lot of roster turnover and first time head coach? 6. Atlanta- I like them a lot and am rooting for coach T, but they sorely lack 3pt shooting outside of Gray and Howard, will they be able to figure out an offense with this roster to keep up with others? 7. Chicago- they are hard to rate, but that shooting guard/perimeter trio could push them into the playoffs…Tina Charles landing spot to add to this wild looking roster? Can Copper play like her finals mvp self and take them farther than anticipated? 8. Phoenix- a few question marks, how will Griner play, can Taurasi stay healthy and play more efficiently? Can those two maintain an elite level of play to keep them ‘relevant’ in the tail end of Diana’s career?
Lottery teams 9. Minnesota- I like what they have with Miller and Collier, but how nice would a star point guard look next to them? Can Reeve coach up this team to sneak into the playoffs? 10. Los Angeles- got a good coach but the roster looks meh with Lexi and Rae as potential starting 2/3 combo….can they shock the W and overachieve? 11. Seattle- team no point guard, let’s see how this goes….can they do enough to convince Loyd to stay in the future or do they finally decide to do a complete rebuild around Ezi and Horston? 12. Indiana- these youngins, hopefully Smith and Boston is the front court of the future and they add more talent in the next draft…can they start building a new culture with a new head coach, and try to play consistently despite the losses?
Be kind to yourself, the way you expect others to be kind to you.
—Connecticut will finish Top-4 again —Vegas will finish Top-1 again —Chicago will make the playoffs —Phoenix barring all teams' injury statuses throughout the year will miss the playoffs —Indiana this year will finish higher than at least one team (Seattle)
