NY still has a few, young pieces that they don't need. Send Sabally & Willoughby to Seattle for their 2023 & 2024 second rounders.
And we would certainly still be willing to take on a Dolson or Laney if need be. An Achonwa, a Hamby, a Hebard – whichever other allegedly pregnant players are out there. This is the year to take on a dump. Shit, dump us Wheeler’s contract in Indiana lmfao.
Diggins-Smith? How about Diggins-Smith, DeShields and a 2024 1st rounder for Loyd?
I genuinely wonder if SDS still wants out now that BG is back, making Phoenix automatically a dark-horse contender.
She might be content to just take her sweet ole time getting back from pregnancy, join the Merc late in the season when playoffs are around the corner (of which the Merc certainly won’t be missing it), see what happens, then leave in 2024 no matter what.
That said, yeah, that doesn’t mean Phoenix won’t try to trade her anyway, especially if they get Loyd in the process. Both Loyd & SDS are free agents in 2024 anyway. DeShields would be an interesting part of the deal, maybe necessary just cuz of how the salary numbers for Phoenix shake out.
I just want as many 2024 & 2025 picks as possible. We’ll literally still be able to put together a 12-team roster, and we’ll certainly be lottery-bound at this point no matter who those 12 are. The only good thing about a rebuild is how flexible your roster moves are able to become.
Loyd to Chicago SDS to Chicago #5 pick & Russell to Phoenix Chicago's 2024 & 2025 first round picks to Seattle Kia Nurse to Seattle
Russell is un-necessary for Phoenix because they have Griner and Turner as emergency 5. If I'm Phoenix, I want Loyd as part of the deal because nothing else provides value to them.
Realistically I think Seattle thought Stewart would stay. Hence why they let Talbot go. Now they're throwing money at anybody and probably offers Charles more to stay. Bring back Canada and Prince and get Melbourne to come over. Reshanda Gray?
If I was Seattle, I would not sign Charles and give Magbegor the chance to be the primary frontcourt option. The presence of Charles has impeded Magbegor's development for one season already.
I think it's a great time for Melbourne to come over. She's shown some promising point guard chops in the WNBL recently and she's the type of player you want in a rebuilding team.
Kia Nurse is a pretty meh signing but who else is there really.
I know Nurse was used as a SF in Phoenix, but she’s a true SG. Hopefully her signing means Loyd is about to be on her way out. (Wild that I’m even saying that now… but I am.)
Nurse and Whitcomb both got two year fully protected deals with the Storm, which I bet their current teams were not willing to offer them. The Tank Is Real.
Whitcomb could start at point and she and Loyd (if she stays) could share playmaking duties. Whitcomb is only an average playmaker but her size and shooting would be an advantage at the point.
I’d hope Whitcomb would get to play her natural 2. Otherwise, I guess it could very well be a Whitcomb-Loyd-Nurse starting perimeter if Loyd really wants to stay lmao. I mean, starting three true SGs – what could possibly go wrong?
