Apparently their last spot was between Engstler and Hawkins. Thibault has a soft spot for her. A shame that Engstler is out of a job again. Another player that should be picked up ASAP.
Talent-wise, I'd agree on Engstler. But is this a Chennedy Carter situation (with less attitude and less talent)?
Given the status of WNBA journalism, we will likely learn no more about that than we have about what actually happened in Las Vegas (or who owns the league).
Mystics will be a relocation candidate if Qatar ever gets majority stake in MSE, since Qatar notoriously dgaf about women’s sports.
now, do the Mystics deserve it? well, they’ve been around since nearly the very beginning, yet on paper their core fanbase has actually shrunk – cuz wbk that they used to inflate their attendance numbers nearly more than any other team in the league back when they played in a regular-sized arena.
DC is certainly a big market that supports its many sports. but if a 25ish-year-old W franchise with a somewhat recent title to its name can’t sell out a 4,200-seat arena every single game… at a certain point it’s like, what are we doing here?
Sportswashing is a slow play, an erosion of ethics that takes its time to absorb the blows, weather the pushback and wait out the howls of disgust until they become quieter and quieter. When all that remains is a whimper and maybe even a shrug, then those countries have won. And they are winning now because we’re losing our outrage.
this is exactly what’s already happening to golf as we’ve all probably seen, with Saudi Arabia-backed LIV merging with the PGA after the [CEO of the] PGA previously denounced it. that sportswashing event is virtually already 100% complete, and it barely took more than a year from start to finish.
i hope it’s not a sign that it’s gonna become more common. shit around the world is already sus enough as it is, in large part thanks to online misinformation campaigns of all varieties… as well as greedy big business owners who practically all run the world.
