The list of HC candidates is embarrassingly bereft of much reason for optimism.
I feel there's plenty of current assistant coaches that can fill the vacancies in Los Angeles and Indiana.
There are but hiring an assistant coach (or any coach almost) is always a "crap shoot". I always feel like you have no way to tell whether an assistant is any good or not. The Dream got lucky it seems with Wright but Collen also looked great after her first season. Had she come in a year later she might have looked terrible. S few bad breaks and Wright may come under scrutiny as well. VJ looked terrible with the Stars but she seems to have redeemed herself with the Wings. Hopkins was highly regarded, but bombed out. Wade has been COY and WNBA champion coach.....
She’s a name to keep an eye on for me for any openings this time around. I think Hammon’s good year coaching with her as the top assistant and her other coaching experience will lead to some discussion

She is probably counting her blessings that she didn't get the Mercury HC job......
Toliver's gig with Dallas was strange. I was at a playoff game in SF and watched Toliver. She had zero -- and I mean zero -- interaction with any other member of the Dallas staff during the game. She did warm up Davis Bertans before the game, but that was the extent of her visible involvement as a coach.
So that looks like virtue-signaling to me, and says nothing about Toliver's readiness to be a head coach.
But it's hard to find good candidates. The only advantage to coaching in the W is that you don't have to kiss up to 16-year-olds to win games. Well, and the season's short. But the money is less than in college, the job security is worse and the prestige is non-existent.
