i wasn't planning on watching Game 3; was totally ready to write this series off regardless of Game 3's outcome. turned it on anyway midway through the 4Q, right after Gray's injury happened.
if she heard something "pop" in her foot... well, she can ask Alysha Clark about that feeling. Clark's lisfranc injury suffered abroad in March 2021 kept her out until May 2022, well over a year recovery. if it's a bad lisfranc injury – their severities can vary – it can last longer than a torn Achilles, which some also speculate that Gray may have hurt. hard to say.
if Gray's at least too injured to play for the rest of the week, this series gets completely flipped on its head. Hammon starts Clark in Gray's place in which there's a chance > 0% that she plays all her starters 40 minutes. regardless, the starters would play extensive minutes on Wednesday, and if there's a Game 5 on Friday, that's a really quick turnaround time. hard to say how much legs those starters would have, even at home.
i can absolutely still see the Aces pulling it out, whether it's Wednesday or Friday, whether Gray's out or plays in limited fashion. (Hammon remains a better coach than Brondello, for starters.)
but it's definitely no sure thing anymore. if there were ever a team that can come back against all odds (a 0-2 Finals hole to be precise) and snatch victory out of the jaws of defeat, it's the 2023 Liberty.

Refs were never going to allow the Liberty to be swept. Terrible officiating yesterday. Along with all of the pathetic flopping a player as great as Stewie does every game. She should be ashamed of herself.

I lost count with how many times Plum shoved a Liberty player out of the way yesterday. Like, full force shoved someone else and there was no call. Also, Wilson has turned into a flopper, too. Aces' had more FT attempts than the Liberty. How often did Wilson and Stokes assault Jonquel inside and the refs didn't call anything? Can't say it was one sided for New York when the Aces had fewer fouls yesterday.

WNBA Twitter remains a dumpster fire. It's remarkable that you can't say anything negative about the Aces without getting verbally assaulted. But yet Sabrina, Stewart and the Liberty get harassed daily and yet those same "fans" get so worked up if you say anything negative about the Aces. That organization and their fans remain the most immature and classless bunch in the league.
Their conspiracy theories are insane, too. They honestly think Chelsea Gray purposely injured herself because the Finals are scripted and that the league desperately wants the Liberty to win their first title. What player would injure themselves so badly to potentially miss the entire next season?
