Y’all don’t need Whitcomb if she’s not gonna thrive in Brondello’s system. She never really looked totally comfortable last year to me, even as she came off the bench like she did the whole time she was here in Seattle.
As for PG, there’s always some overseas vet somewhere, just gotta find them. Otherwise, you can always get a PG vet for cheap (Colson, Sims, etc)

If Ionescu is more comfortable with bringing the ball up the court and initiating the offense then another starting point guard isn't required because besides those duties, Ionescu was performing the point guard role anyway. I think for a starting guard besides Ionescu, New York needs a better defender and shooter than Dangerfield. Johannes and Whitcomb are both good shooters but I think you want a better defender to help out Ionescu.
The problem is, Ionescu looked more comfortable as the starting 2 in 2022 than the starting 1 in 2021. And she was basically the starting 2 her whole time at Oregon. I think the SG position is generally overrated, and that it’s better to start multiple PGs or even multiple SFs. Separately, I also think you can’t really depend on Johannès to be there year in & year out, sadly. If she plans on showing up in 2023, great. Go from there. But keep the options open thereafter when Prioritization actually starts applying to her.
And they don’t necessarily need a true PG. Maybe just another combo guard like Ionescu, but one who can also play defense and not be a liability on offense. I’d prefer a regular PG though.
Fauthoux, Kone, NSabally, Carrera, I think they still have the rights to Raincock-Ekunwe, and Shook they still have the rights to after her contract expired upon it ending on its suspension.
So then by my understanding, two of those would have to go, before they can make Reserved QOs to Xu, Johannès, and/or Dangerfield.

Probably Raincock is one as I don't see her back in the W again. Fauthoux probably won't make a roster in the WNBA, so she could be the 2nd unless Johannes is close friends with her and wants her to come over. I wonder if Shook ever decides on returning to the W?
My guess is Raincock-Ekunwe for sure (assuming she counts), and then probably Shook. I can also see them letting go of Fauthoux’s rights, even as she’s the only PG of this bunch. They only got the rights to NSabally, Kone, and Carrera last year, so definitely not NSabally and probably not the other two either.
