I'm a Sophie Cunningham fan, but she's playing awful -- 3 for 19 in her last three games, 40.6% overall, 31.6% from three -- and her team is terrible. So she acts out.
That's fine if you're 14, but Sophie will turn 27 next month and should realize it's time to grow up.
they might even look better without her. haven’t seen the games themselves but based on BG’s so-so stats the past several games, she might’ve been just going through the motions.
Bridges have clearly been burned. Neither side looks very good after this ...
i’m not a fan of Diggins-Smith, but remind me of what she did to deserve allegedly being treated this way. why is she looking as bad as her organization right now?
i suspect we’ll see a contract divorce between the two parties if she isn’t traded by the trade deadline (Aug. 7 @ 5pm ET). she won’t be traded straight-up for anyone. only Indiana has all this cap space such that they could feasibly send a single player (Vivians?), or the trade would involve more pieces, but would Diggins-Smith want to go to another non-playoff team? even if it is the team in her home state? idk. she’s a free agent after 2023’s over regardless.

This comment is such an absolute joke. Like seriously? The only person/people in the wrong here are Taurasi and the rest of the awful people who run the Mercury.
I know this milestone should have had a sold out crowd last, but these always happen last minute. However, only ~7,500 announced attendance for last night's game. How sad.

doesn’t help when the Merc have played well below expectations the whole season. and it’s not like the team has these young players whom the fans can watch grow up in real time like the Storm do.
if Mat Ishbia is taking his ownership of specifically the Merc seriously, he needs to take ownership of a culture change. the organization hasn’t looked good recently with the Diggins-Nygaard-whomever else situation having played out as it has. seems to me that the organization clearly has its favorites, and Taurasi’s at the top of that list. it’s unfortunate she appears intent on playing next season – otherwise imo she’s been a big part of the culture problem throughout her career, at least as it pertains to the personality the team takes on under her ‘leadership’, and especially while the team has been bad.
otherwise, i’d consider trying to nudge her out. she clearly can still get hers every night, but that seems to have no bearing on the actual outcomes of the games. without knowing just how beloved she is by the diehard Merc fans, her negatives to me outweigh her positives at this point. but again, the buck stops with her regardless.
Interesting ... I've often thought of Taurasi as polarizing, but not necessarily on her own team. She does have a long of history of winning at the highest levels, which would seem to point to positivity, but then again there are other incidents that point the other way.
In Phoenix, I guess it depends on what you think of Sandy Brondello as a coach. If you think Brondello is good, then you could argue Taurasi held her back. If you think Brondello is average or worse, then maybe the issue is with leadership at that spot. Taurasi's PER is 19.8 this year, and the on-court/off-court numbers are contradictory, so it would appear she's still an effective WNBA player.
But I can't see the Mercury forcing her to retire when she can still contribute.
